Marie,

You do realise that they did what they do now, and that is live together without getting married. So that could be the case and you will never find a marriage for them.

I have some like that.

JR

*gasp*  the shock, the horror, the shame!   :o

Only kidding - I was beginning to suspect as much myself - but I'll check the census anyway just to be sure.

Many thanks

Marie  :)

Roger could be right  :)

I've looked through the marriage index and can't find a Young/Dawson marriage

Marie, If you look up the 1911, could you come back and post the approximate marriage year if shown?

Barbara  :)

No problem.

Thanks for very much - I thought it was just me doing something stupid when I couldn't find it.  :)

Hi Marie,

If you're going to do the search for your Thomas Henry Dawson in the 1911 census (your other post!) you could use some of your credits to look for John and Jane too, as, if they're there, the 1911 census image will show how long they've been married, which would help to narrow it down a bit

Barbara  :)

Thank you   :)

Hello Marie. I have had a look at all the Dawson inscriptions that I have  at Witton le Wear, Tow law, Stanley , Etherley, Hunwick and Crook and there is no one with the name and date that you are looking for.

Adam

Thank you so much for your efforts Adam.  It is very much appreciated.  Hopefully he will appear in Parish Records if/when I can get to look through them.  I'm assuming that these will be at the Central Records Office in Durham rather than held by the individual churches.

I really appreciate your time.

Kind regards

Marie

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all who replied to my query.

Many thanks

Hi Marie,

A quick search of the index shows only one Thomas Henry Dawson aged 30 and only one Mary Ann aged 27, so it looks as if you'll only need to buy the minimum number of credits to see the whole household.

Barbara  :)

Thanks for that Barbara - which site do I need to buy these credits on? (If it is ancestry.co.uk then I'd be so grateful for a link as I can't find it on there)

Many thanks

Marie

They would be living in the Stanley, Crook are (possibly Wooley Terrace, Stanley) with at least one son - John born 1905.  in a previous census she has been listed as  'martha'.

Would be grateful if anyone can find them as I'd love to know what address they are living at and if they have any more children or people living with them.

Just so that you know that I'm not being lazy, I paid a subscription to Ancestry.co.uk to look at the 1911 census records but can't find them anywhere so think that must have been a bit of a waste of time (humph).

Kind regards

Marie

Durham Lookup Requests / Marriage Look Up - Jane Dawson/Allison & John Young
« on: Saturday 09 May 09 10:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to trace the above marriage but have been unable to get anywhere on my own.

The family lived at Billy Row, Crook, Co Durham (Auckland district or Durham West).  Jane's maiden name was jane Allison and then she married John Dawson.  They are listed in the 1891 census  with their children at Billy Row.  John died two months after the census was taken.

In the 1901 census she is listed as living in the same property but is now Jane Young living with her husband, John Young, and the children of her former marriage.  So she must have been married to John Young between 1891 and 1901 but I cannot find any records.

Hopefully a fresh pair of eyes will be able to help.

Many thanks for ANY assistance of advice that can be provided.

Kind regards

Marie

Hello Marie. No more Dawsons at Stanley Crook.
What year and age for John were you looking for?

Adam

Hi Adam

He died in 1891 at around 36 years of age.  He lived in Billy Row so I would have thought that St Thomas would be the relevant churchyard.  Perhaps it is an unmarked grave?  As far as I know this was the only churchyard in the Billy Row area so I can't think of anywhere else he would be.  His wife was called Jane.

Kind regards

Marie
