Antrim / Robinson Cleaver. Scott
« on: Friday 31 January 14 15:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters.
I have just discovered that my partner is descended from Robinson of Robinson Cleaver who had the big store on the corner of Donegal Square and Royal Avenue. Belfast.

His mother was Eileen Florance Orford Scott.
Her Father was Adam Scott,
I seem to remember seeing posts  quite some time ago where someone was researching this family and wondered if you see this post, if you would mind sharing. I hope to have more details very soon. Did they also own a linen mill?
Any information would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Wendy.
I wonder where Daniel Bruce comes from. My g'g' grandmother was Margaret Ann Bruce. Her father was in the army and the family moved around a lot.Margaret was born in Ireland and when the family moved to Australia they left Margaret in Ireland as a baby. Don't know why. As far as I know she was the only one left behind. Buuut I may be wrong. Margaret Ann married Wm John Crowe. One of their children was Ellen who married James Watson. I have had a lot of help from Maggie Little, There is always a connection somewhere if only we can find it.
It was good to put your face to your name on facebook.
Best regards.
Gladys.

When I knew Vera she lived in the cottages further down the Barnfield, and were there when my grandmother had a house built below the cotages. I remember the Leckys, Smiths, Hewits,Burns boys, Alderdice and Bell's farm further down on the corner.I liked watching the larks rising in the meadow next to our house. last time I was there the meadow was built over with houses.
I knew Kathleen and saw her son Billy in Bristol about 14-15 years ago when he built an eco house. And knew the others living in Portstewart before they emigrated. The daughter was maybe a year or two older than me. It is so nice to hear from you.

Hi Maggie. Yes I knew the McNieces. I was a Derriaghy school, opposite the church with Vera.we walked home to her house where her mother gave us rice pudding. We would then play in her playhouse in the garden, I lost track of time and got a hiding for being late home. I still had a mile further to get home. (it seemed like a mile to a 5 or 6 year child)

Hi McFar. Have sent you a pm. The last time I saw uncle Tony's house was a few years ago and it had been completely recked and was a pile of rubble.

Margaret Anne Bruce was my GGgrandmother, born approx 1829, father Richard Bruce. She married William John Crowe on 26 07 1856. I know of only one daughter Ellen DofB 04 01 1861. Married James Watson 25 02 1882. Ellen and James had 11 children w ith 9 living. All male.
Hope this helps. The families were CofI and all the marriages took place in Christ Church. Derriaghy.
