David Tully's parents were John Tully and Janet Brown.

Roxburghshire / Margaret Houd/Hood & James Wight

Interested in making contact with anyone descended from Margaret Houd & James Wight.

James Wight, son of John Wight and Margaret Rutherford, and married to Cecelia Laing was my 3x great-grandfather.

Would really like to track this James, son of John, back to James Wight married to Margaret Houd.  I have a family bible that indicates there is a connection but I can't find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Tully connection in Hawick.

Helen Tully, born 1813 Hawick, daughter of David Tully and Janet Turnbull, married George Murray, born 1810 Hawick, son of George Murray and Agnes Yule.

George Murray and Helen Tully married Sept. 14, 1840, Hawick.  They are my great-great grandparents.

Roxburghshire / Assorted Huggan Families - Roxburghshire
« on: Monday 15 June 09 14:23 BST (UK)  »
I have been working at sorting out the assorted Huggan families in Roxburghshire.  I have seen much posted about the William Huggan/Betty Turnbull line and have now done quite a bit of research on the Andrew Huggan/Isabel Robson line.  As I try to find a link between this William and Andrew (would be early to mid 1700s) I have now identified a couple of other Huggan lines to try to connect:

John Huggan married Agnes Oliver, Dec. 15, 1754, Ancrum.  Found an IGI record for a son George, married Mary Thomson and they have a daughter Agnes Oliver Huggan so this seems a fit.  Other children on IGI are Isoble, 1759 and Jane, 1755 as well two sons Thomas Huggan.  I am wondering if this is Thomas Huggan who married Janet Tait Dec. 3, 1796, Crailing.  Thomas and Janet are parents of William Huggan born @1804 who died 1883, Jedburgh, husband of Agnes Taylor and then Mary Rutherford.

Andrew Huggan married Jane Scott, Mar. 31, 1782 Crailing.  IGI records for George, 1783; Jane, 1784; Isabel William, 1785; and William, 1786.

Would appreciate any help that can tie these families together.

Amanda - I got your personal message but can't figure out who to reply to it directly.  Please contact me privately at (*).

The Huggans who came to Huron County are a different line descending from Andrew Huggan, b 1767, Crailing, and his wife Isabella Robson.   Their grandson, Andrew, b. 1838, England, married Mary Rutherford.  After Mary's death Andrew & his children left Wilton and immigrated to Canada - to Wingham in Huron County.  I live about 40 minutes from there.

Haven't been able to link this line with the William Huggan/Betty Turnbull line as there is little easy access to records in the 1700s.

Amanda - I see you are in Ontario.  I have been researching the Huggan line that immigrated to Huron County.  Have you done any research on them?

I can also add;

George born 1855 married Helen Pettigrew 31st dec 1874,
Jemima born 1860 married George McArthur 31st dec 1887,
Andrew Swan Huggan born 1869 married Elizabeth Middlemass 8th Oct 1896.

from the family of James Huggan and Elizabeth Richardson married 1878 I can add;
dau Harriet Miller Huggan married James Riddell 15th dec 1899,Hawick,
son George Huggan married Mary Tearney 27th Jan 1905,
son Andrew Richardson Huggan married Mary Drummond Davidson 25th June 1915.

I would say the 1871 entry on Ancestry has been wrongly transcribed,

which branch are you connected to?

Amanda.
