Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Guernsey - BMD - Death Record
« on: Sunday 05 February 06 22:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

From family knowledge etc, I know that my great uncle, Stanley Sidney Dawes  died in Guernsey on 17 Dec 1961.

But can anyone tell me the best way forward in securing a copy of his death certificate, who, where, what etc.

Many thanks in advance  ;)

A good thread this one..... I too have tried various ones, Started with Reunion 2 many years back then moved to Generations, Family Tree maker.

My preference if the data is going to be standalone would have to be http://www.familytreelegends.com/ a very nicely put together peice of software.

However, with finding all these new members of my family, they all started wanting to see what information I had & therefore I looked to the web - but I didn't want to be doubling up on data imput etc.

I then came across http://lythgoes.net/genealogy/software.php.
This is a fantastic  -  everything is done on the web & infact I find it better then alot of standalone software. Fell free to check out my site & see for your self.

Technical Help / Re: Computer slows down
« on: Friday 19 November 04 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Essexgirl ......

There are loads of reasons why PC's would run slow etc but an educated guess would be that it's because your running a standard phone modem getting a connection somewhere in region of 56k.

Most web pages these days are written with broadband users in mind where the average speed is going to be 512k & indeed now some people have 1 & 2MB links.

Other suggestions that people have said will help very slightly - thing to remember is that you are using your phone to access the data & this is the slowest/weekest link.

Time for an upgrade  :) :D

Regards

Simon

Technical Help / Re: Advice on Broadband Limits Please.

Hi there,

There are a lot of packages around at the moment - One of the best is with plusnet....
http://portal.plus.net/my/mydiscount_info/landing_page.html?zWVl6A8AruuylVaHtkq2oY%2FiPypwfFXwjmYMBtf%2BvaU%3D

I would recommend that you go with an all inclusive one though then you get no nasty surprises etc.

Technical Help / Re: Cant fix this one
« on: Friday 19 November 04 13:13 GMT (UK)  »
This is part of Microsoft Secruity patches as someone rightly said but the only way of changing this is a registry hack to the OS that I would not advise.

Go to the link below & download DetachOL.exe
This is a GUI for making the changes - so if you run it, follow on screen commands etc & after restarting Outlook Express all sorted.

Technical Help / Re: Multifunction Printers?
« on: Friday 19 November 04 13:07 GMT (UK)  »
Best on the market for cost, quality & speed at the mo would the HP PSC Model's.
I've bought a few in lately for our remote workers - beauty of them is that they also have a small form factor.

If you need any help feel free to ask  :)

Hi there,

I am trying to find any information for John Hoare born 1827 in Sidlesham, Sussex.
The earliest I have located him is in the 1871 Census - Fareham, Hampshire - Photographer.

If anyone is able to locate him in any of the earlier Census' that would be brilliant.

 :)
