In the book 'The mystery of the Coventry Cappers' It states that the Watchmaking trade suffered a depression in the 17th century until 'about 1750 when the first of the Rotherams and John Bottrill, began to develop the craft again.'
At 72 years of age I'm a novice at this researching ancestors business but I know that on my father's wedding certificate his father is shown as William Bottrill Watchmaker.
Despite these clues I have been unable to gain any further history of my ancestors or their standing in the Watchmaking trade. From Western Australia it is sometimes difficult to follow things up. So I'm asking if anyone in their own resaerch has any information that could assist me in this endeavour before I become an ancestor myself.
