Graham: Have just seen your entry. Much work has been done on the ROUSE/ROUS/ROWSE family of Devon and Cornwall. Copies of Street's A Genealogy of the Rouses of Devon and Peters' A Rouse Family of Devon (both include Cornish branches) are in West Country Studies library, Devon FHS library (both in Exeter) and the Soc. of Genealogists (London) To date it has been impossible proving that the Anthony bap Truro 1619 was the son of William, the one-time MP for Truro (William married Mary Robarts).
The Anthony born 1658 was 3rd child of Anthony and Frances and from them the line from St Agnes is well documented to the present day although Burke once carried an entirely erroneous family tree. (No descent is known from Anthony's brother or sister - Stephen baptised 1654 and Frances bap 1655)
Col. David Rouse (pronounced Roose) of this family has only recently died
The likelihood is that any ROUS person born in Devon or Cornwall before 1600 that (so far) cannot be proved to be linked to the main line at St. Dominic or Modbury came from a junior line two, three or more generations before Sir Anthony Rous (died 1620) of Halton at St. Dominic.
