London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Boyds Inhabitants of London
« on: Thursday 28 September 17 17:55 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much for this.  It rather confirms what I have keep finding but doesn't explain a marriage to Anthony Smith which definitely took place in London in 1612!

I'll keep searching.

Thanks again

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Boyds Inhabitants of London

I hope this is OK to ask.
Could someone who has access to Boyds Inhabitants of London lookup any information on the following, please:
Anthony Smith D.O.B approximately 1580 married to Elizabeth Woodward D.O.B. 15/10/1583 at St Dionysis Backchurch London and married to Anthony Smith 16/2/1612 at St Giles Cripplegate London.
I am trying to prove that this Elizabeth, is the same one whose parents were John Woodward & Catherine Bressey (or Braci).  I have full access to Ancestry but these records are not on there.
Any information, however small, would be very much appreiated.
Geoff.

Hi Marion,
Thank you so much for the message.   Yes I am still doing research although most of it is now on Ancestry.   There were two Thomas Wickendens in my family, one born in 1849 and one in 1884, it was the latter who fought in WW1.   He was with the Rifle Brigade and seems to had 3 service numbers, 1556,  31806 & 48660.  He served in France, Malta and India.
He was born in Gravesend in Kent but lived most of his life in Croydon.   I must leave it to you to judge whether or not the item concerned (a medal?) belongs to my family.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Geoff.

Does SKS have access to old parish records for Warlingham in Surrey?  Ancestry UK has some, but the years I am interested in are missing. My GGG Grandfather was John Smith. Baptised in January 1788, he had 9 siblings and all were born in Warlingham.   Their parents were Thomas Smith & Sarah (?)

Thomas was, I believe, born in 1761 in Warlingham & Sarah in 1765, place unknown.  They were married possibly in 1785 again in Warlingham.   However, this information was gleaned from "other" sources and cannot be verified.

If anyone can confirm these details for me, I would be most grateful.  Smith is not the easiest name to research.

Thanks in advance,

Geoff.

Hi Marilyn,

As I said in my previous posting, I do have the marriage certificate.  However I would be interested to know where it can be viewed on-line for free!

Although I've posted on various groups, I'm new to this one;  PM is what??

Regards,

Geoff.

Many thanks for all the information.

I have access to all the censuses 1841 - 1901 but pre-1881 both Thomas and Mary have disappeared off the radar.   I do have the marr cert for 1872 which shows Thomas Wickenden as the son of Thomas Wickenden and Mary as the daughter of Francis Warn.   I am afraid there are no Inkpin/pen in my family.

Thanks for the advice.   I have been researching for a number of years now and have managed to trace the other 3 grandparents back to 1700,s OK.
It is just the Wickenden line that is bugging me.   Although I remember my Grandmother quite well, there were various hints from other members of the family about the Gypsy element.

Oh well, I'll keep persisting and hope another member of the family may contact me.

Kent / Wickenden family

I am trying to find more information on Edith Mary Wickenden, My Grandmother.

Her parents were Thomas Charles Wickenden & Mary Warn
The children were:-
Edith Mary b1886 Hyde Hill Kent (Ide Hill?)  Married & lived in Croydon.
Esther b1874 Northfleet
Francis b1876 Battersea or Gravesend
Eliza b1879 Lambeth
Alice Mary b1881 Gravesend
Thomas b1885 Gravesend
Agnes Emily b1890 Croydon
Bertie Ernest 1897 Croydon

Thomas and Mary were married in 1872 in Northfleet and I believe his father was also Thomas.  Beyond that, I draw a total blank. They travelled around Kent a lot hop-picking.    Were they Gypsies?

I would love to hear from anyone who has these siblings in their family.

Geoff
