Other Countries / Re: Argentina, McGaul family

Hi Bob,

If you get access to some Argentine records, bear in mind that "James" is a tricky name in the old Argentine records. Often those first names were transcribed into Spanish equivalents, but in the case of James I've rarely seen it transcribed as "Jaime" (which would be the equivalent today). Instead, I've often seen it transcribed as "Santiago".

Thanks for that. I am trying to trace James Reil and keep seeing a Santiago coming to Scotland. This must be him.  Still no luck though trying to find records of him or his family in Argentina.

Peter, the celtic player was a member of my family from his mothers side Mary Ann Twiss.

I am trying to find out about his later days. According to the Scotsman he died in a Nursing home and not in hostel and Wikiceltic said. Also the paper said that he was a director of Hamilton Accies.

I have found out that he had a dispute with parents Trustees but i don't know of the outcome. At that time he was described as a Wine & Spirits Merchant. His Uncles was also one in Edinburgh and i wonder if there was a connection.

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Renfrewshire / McGregor Kilbarchan

I am researching my family who lived in Kilbarchan from 1833 and maybe earlier. A John McGregor died between Oct 1863 when he registered the death of his child Elizabeth i but had died when his child Janet died in Dec 1865. His wife was Mary Williamson who died in 1914.

Does anyone have any information about this family?

Thanks
