James Mather who is potentially my 5th GG was in the Third West York Militia in 1808.

I wonder if there is a relationship there?

At the time there was also a John Mather.

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Re: PRONI Will calendar search question
« on: Thursday 08 February 18 08:32 GMT (UK)  »
I think I have found my g-g-grandfather's will details on the PRO site...

Joseph Hill

Date Of Death:    06/05/1914
Date Of Grant:    05/08/1914
Effects of £823 16s. 10d.

The abstract reads:

"Probate of the Will of Joseph Hill late of Carnlougherin County Antrim Farmer who died 6 May 1914 granted at Belfast to John Law Farmer"

What does this mean though - did all his items go to this 'John Law' or was he just an executor? Joseph Hill married Harriet Collins, her sister Ruth married John Law - I believe this is the connection anyway.

I’d be interested to hear from you.

My own family are from Carnlougherin and Ballynalargy including the Collins, Robinson and Smyth families.

From my Great x 3 Grandparents marriage certificate a witness was a Joseph Hill.

William Carson b 1826 married on 31 Dec 1847 • Ballymena, Antrim, Northern Ireland to Mary Jane Rankin

Mary Jane Rankin is the sister of my Great x 3 Grandfather Charles. His wife Agnes Carson is also of the Carsonstown clan. I had a look at the Ballyclug Cemetery plot purchase list, and my Great x 3 Grandfather purchased a grave on behalf of the William Carson (his brother-in-law) above.

We are related, perhaps in more than one place?

My Great x 4 Grandfather Charles Rankin of Ballee, Ballymena married a Nancy Carson and an Agnes Carson.  I have Agnes' DOB as being 1798 from a headstone but I don't know anything regarding Nancy or their respective fathers. They may have been sisters!

Are you sure there were 2 different wives? Agnes, Nancy, Hannah, Ann, Anne, etc. are all interchangeable.

No I'm not sure to be honest. That is the first time that I've heard Agnes and Nancy are interchangeable.

Unfortunately the marriage records do not go far enough back to check.
