Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Census search by address
« on: Thursday 05 July 12 20:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

I'm sure others have asked this question before, but is it possible to do a a census search by address?

I am interested to learn about the changing fortunes of a now demolished country house.  I presume I need to insert the house name and census date into some sort of   a search engine. Where should I begin my search?
I am a member of Ancestry by the way.

Many thanks in advance.

Staffordshire / The Shawe: Booths Hall Cheadle
« on: Friday 30 March 12 20:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone tell me the history of Booths Hall or the Shawe ? It was a grand country house located between Kingsley Holt and Cheadle: now sadly long gone . I have seen a drawing of the building on the Staffordshire Past Tracks website, and what a grand building it was.

Can anyone tell me when has the Shawe demolished and why?
Who were the Booths and how did they earn their fortune to build such a fine house?
Are there any other photographs available on line.

Many thanks in advance.
Julie

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: confirmation of a date of birth.
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 11:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi Sorry for the late reply.

here is the information I have about my grandmother.

 Irish church Records
ELLEN SCANLON  born 3 June 1898
mother Mary Weir
 Father John Scanlon

1901 Census she appears with her family now called Helen in Picton Place Canton Cardiff, aged 6. This age seems wrong I know because she should be aged 3 !

1911 census
Nellie Scanlon  a visitor aged 13 from Kerry  is living with Ann Harington a widow aged 60 in Pontypridd. I think this is a credible record for her. I think her parents are dead although her siblings are still living in thee area

1914 I have her marriage certificate 4th July now called Nellie Scanlon marries Patrick Moore in Ponypridd aged 17. John Scanlon also on Marriage Certificate. This age seems iffy also.

finally her death certificate  Eileen Teressa Moore died July 1945 aged 47 in Pontypridd. This age seems OK.
My problem is; I have name changes, age changes. The only definitive records are her death and marriage records. If I could get proof of a date of birth from Nellie's life time which matches the possible church records from1898, I'm on the right track. Am I barking up the wrong tree?
any advice is greatly appreciated.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / confirmation of a date of birth.
« on: Saturday 20 August 11 19:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

I am still trying to verify a date of birth and I hoping the very clever people who are members of Rootschat can come to my assistance again. The date of birth I am looking for is that is that of  my grandmother who died in Treforrest in 1945 ( that's why I am on the Glamorganshire  Site). I am 95% sure I have found her, but I need  to verify the date of birth.

I have tried the usual things
* death certificate which just gives the the age of my grandmother.
* marriage certificate. Again, just her age
* I even have a photograph of of my grandmothers grave stone, kindly provided by Glyntaff Cemetery, but still no date of birth.
Has anyone any suggestions of where else I might look to find her birthdate, perhaps a National Insurance number? I am open to all ideas.

Thank you all in advance

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: Grave Inscriptions: Moore
« on: Monday 01 August 11 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all for your help.

The marriage which Haydon found in Pontypridd is correct.
Finding her place and date of birth is proving to be  illusive. I have searched the 1911 census and there is a Nellie Scanlon as a lodger living with a Ann  Harrington in Pontypridd. She is stated as being  a visitor from Kerry Ireland. She is the right age  of 13.Maybe she was in service to Mrs Harrington who is stated as being a widow So I think the Nellie Scanlons from Newcastle are unlikely to be my gran. I have found a number of Nellies in the Irish censuses and baptism records. However, without a date of birth, I can't go any further. That is why I am pinning my hopes of a date of birth on her grave stone.
Can any one suggest any other records I can access where I can find her birth date and place of birth.

Thank you for giving a reference for my grand mothers burial plot. From this, I have been  given  a contact who can find out if there is a grave stone with the dates I need to continue my search.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Grave Inscriptions: Moore
« on: Sunday 31 July 11 13:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Can anyone suggest a site where I can find the grave of my grand mother.
She died in Treforest on 9Th July 1945. Her name was Eileen Moore   (ne Scanlon) and she was aged 47 when she died. She may possibly be buried with her husband Patrick Moore who died in December 1938 aged 50.

The reason for my search is to find her date and place of birth which is on the grave inscription  so I may continue the search of my family tree.

She was Catholic if that helps in any way.

Many thanks for looking at this post

Glamorganshire / Re: Irish immigrants to Wales, 1800s
« on: Sunday 15 May 11 15:40 BST (UK)  »
sorry for the late reply to your posting

I know my grand father was in Pontypridd in 1914 as that was the year he married my grandmother.  He then went on to fight in WW1 but was a POW for 4 years and he did not return til 1918 He joined the Munster Fusiliers in Kerry Ireland .As I said in a previous post, Patrick worked for the Marquis of Bute at his estate at Dumfries House in Ayrshire Scotland.
What has always intrigued me is, how did path begin ?
From Kerry, Ireland to marrying in South Wales . On to Scotland to the Marquis of Bute then settling in Treforrest after the war as an army pensioner.

There must be some sort of connection. Does any other Roots Chatters have any ideas?
Thank you

I was so pleased that  am not the only one who who's Irish relatives arrived in Wales to settle from Kerry in  Ireland.
My grand father Patrick Moore was in the Munster Fusiliers in WW1 and settled in Treforrest  ( like Tricia 2) when he was repatriated after being a POW for 4 years  in France. Can anyone tell me if there is a connection with Kerry or  Treforrest  and the Marquis of Bute ? My grandfather worked for the Marquis at Dumfries House in Ayrshire after the War  and I would love to know how this may have happened.

I am also very proud of my Celtic roots !
