« on: Wednesday 22 July 09 16:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for previous families of a Thomas Goldsmith born abt1788, poss Sussex and died 18th mar, 1836, he married a Emma lusted on 24th dec 1822 in Hellingly, Sussex.

Had two daugters; Mary born 1824 herstmonceux, Sussex and died 1st sept 1826 and Harriet born 1825 and died 27th sept 1842 at Hellingly Workhouse, also they had a son Thomas born abt 1827 Herstmonceux and died 27th nov 1901.

Also down the line one of them married a Baker.

If anyone can help me to find previous family of this Thomas, I would be deeply appreciated. I am not sure if any of the ones I have read on here are connected to my family.

doubt it - couldnt see a Birth Regn either - prob Enumerators error, copying out the schedules by candlelight and got mixed up.

Have you found any of them 1881 onward ?  ::)

I couldnt see Henry pre-1871 either   ???

If the 1-month old 'Mercy' was indeed born in Woolwich, the family must have only just arrived in Tonbridge / Tunbridge area ....

I couldnt see any deaths 1871-1881 either, nor remarriages which might have changed the kids surnames ....

didnt look in 1901 tho, as assumed any survivors would have married by then ...

I can't find anything on them before that census or after, until Charlotte baker comes into the picture, she married Alma Thomas Goldsmith who was a Hawker at one time. they married 1883 march 12th.

Banffshire / Re: 1871 census look up please - Farquhar

Looking at the IGI I found the birth for James to be 16th July 1837 Aberdour, Aberdeen. (typo flst?)
It was recorded as "James Farquhar or Cummine" which tells you that he too was illegitimate.

You might find some entry in the kirk sessions as Isabella had 2 illegitimate children. The fact that both the fathers acknowledged them is good start!

Kirsty

Thanks kirsty, not quite sure what you mean though about the kirk sessions.

My ancestors include Farquhar families of Portsoy.  I haven't come across the names you have mentioned but maybe there is a connection.  The person with most info on Farquhar's of Portsoy is GDub71.  I will let him know about your search.

Ditsy
Thank you, please let him know, to see if he can link up all these farquhar families.

From the familysearch website I found James Farquhar born 16 July 1836 in the parish of Aberdour,Aberdeenshire..Parents James Farquhar & Isabel Cummine. Isabel also had another illegitimate son,Andrew Riddel Forrest or Cumminge born 14 January 1840. I found them in the 1841 census in the village of New Aberdour, with their maternal grandparents:
James Cummine 56,blacksmith,Isabel Cummine,50,Isabel Cummine,25,James Farquhar,3.Andrew Forrest,1.
In 1851 James & Andrew are living with their uncle in High Street,New Aberdour.Andrew Riddel is a widower,49,a tailor,Andrew a scholar,James an apprentice tailor. Also in the household is an Elizabeth Cummine a house servant,31,single.All are born in Aberdour parish.

Thanks, have just got back on here after a period of inactivty.
