Thanks for the information Hallmark.

Recently was in touch with the Rector of Colebrooke and Cooneen with Mullaghfad trying to chase up these baptisms. None in the records he holds. So looking for other possibilities in terms of churches for someone who would give Cooneen as their townland.

As I'm from Australia I have little knowledge about how to proceed now. But not possible for me to access PRONI or any of the records that require me to be 'on site'.

Appreciate the assistance
regards

Fermanagh / Baptism Lookups Cooneen Townland Co. Fermanagh. SCOTT
« on: Saturday 29 October 16 18:57 BST (UK)  »
Would appreciate some assistance if possible. I have protestant parents Robert and Janette SCOTT(approx birth dates only for both parents 1805) baptising children somewhere in this townland. Children are:
Margaret SCOTT dob abt 1828
Jane Ann SCOTT dob abt 1828- some records indicate these girls are twins, others that Margaret is the elder
Robert SCOTT dob abt 1830
Eliza SCOTT dob abt 1832
Henry SCOTT dob abt 1834.
Family emigrated to Australia, parents died before arriving, children sent to orphanage.Just tracked down letters from Col. Secretary in Australia confirming birth locations of children as Cooneen Townland. Would be grateful of any assistance or advice as to where to look.

Wigtownshire / Re: Look Up Parish Register for SPROTT
« on: Monday 21 May 12 07:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi Trish

Thanks for looking and anything is possible although the embarkation documents for Mary lists her parents as SPROTT, but this could be a writing error of course. I know that the names SPROTT/SPROAT/SPROT are variations of the same name.

I'd appreciate it if you'd check the census- tried to do that from here using the Wigtownshire pages but didn't get very far.

I had seen the IGI record you found but bar any other corroborating evidence- can't be sure about this. Although it does fit, Joseph was from Lancashire and this was a Bounty ship organised by Benjamin Boyd of Twofold Bay to bring out workers/farm labourers for his land there. When the ship arrived Boyd had been declared missing on board the 'Seahorse' (I think) and so his brother William Sprott Boyd took over.

Perhaps Mary and Joseph married before travelling for financial reasons? Or because married couples were preferred. I'd appreciate any information you could find.

Wigtownshire / Look Up Parish Register for SPROTT
« on: Sunday 20 May 12 04:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

Hoping someone can look up some SPROTT's for me please? I have Mary SPROTT b.circa 1827 in Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire. She married Joseph BERRY (date and place unknown) and immigrated with him on 'Bermonsey' to Twofold Bay Australia. She died in Merimbula, Australia in 1917 aged 88.  Her parents names are listed as George and Janet SPROTT on her immigration records, they are listed as Presb and both living when she departed in 1848.I would love to be able to confirm dates of birth for Mary, maiden name of her mother, marriage of parents etc

Also interested in the name itself- does anyone know what it means, origins etc?

Thanks in advance for considering this request :)

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Rolvenden Look-up BUTTON
« on: Friday 30 December 11 08:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi HL

Thank you very much for all of your help with this. Not having an age for Jane makes the search very difficult so I appreciate you searching other areas  :).

The only Janes I could find were a Jane Collins bap 8 July 1750 in Chatham Kent by John and Elizabeth Collins and on Family Search, a Jane Collins bap 4 July 1731 in Bethersden Kent by George and Jane Collins. But not knowing an age for Jane it's hard to know if either of these are right  :-\. And not knowing the area makes it hard to know if these places are close enough to Rolvenden to be even included in a search.

I also tried to check Settlement Certificates for the area/name/years but no luck with these either. The information on Ancestry re the marriage of William and Jane that lists William as a widower, identifies Jane as a spinster both OTP.

As William is identified as an Innkeeper at his marriage perhaps I can try for his will/probate records as these may turn up some information. Do you have a record of his death date?

Again thanks very much for all of the searching for the origins of the elusive Jane

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Rolvenden Look-up BUTTON

Hi HL

Thanks for the extra information on the other BUTTONS, I'm a bit stumped now as other than Biddenden or Tendenden, I don't know of any other possible birthplaces for Jane Collings- and these are just a guess as the other family that the BUTTONS are later associated with (MOON) seemed to move between the three locations.

I will try to see if FamilySearch has anything useful and will surely get back to you if I find any clues to Jane's birthplace or parents

Thanks again for all of your work on this

Hi HL

Thanks for the speedy reply and for confirming my records. Although it is Jane rather than Sarah who is in my direct line, (Anne Button is my ancestor)- just for the sake of accuracy I like to make sure my records are as correct as they can be.

Do you happen to have any information on Jane COLLINGS (BUTTON) parents?

Thanks again for the information
