Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Marriage of Thomas Wilson of Sheffield

Thank you all for your replies. I need to take some time to sort through it.
Does anyone have an opinion yet on which Ann was married to Thomas?
Your help is appreciated.

Further to my earlier reply, the witnesses to the marriage of Benjamin Parkin and Ann Wilson in 1846 were Joseph Smith and V? Hudson. Benjamin was a widower, previously married in 1843 to Amelia Coates, who died in 1844. Joseph Smith and Hudson were witnesses to that marriage, too. Hudson seems to witness a lot of the marriages.

The witnesses to the Thomas Wilson = Ann Wilkin 1811 marriage were Samuel Sidebottom and what looks like Sarby/Larby?
To Thomas Wilson = Ann Washington in 1817 were Joseph Washington and Joseph Hudson

I don't know if any of this helps. I've been confused by the Wilson family for years. A lot of them in Yorkshire and all using the same names. The Parkins aren't a piece of cake either!!

Thanks so much for replying.
Rosie99 - I will check out Thomas & Mary to see if they are family. I had concerns about the difference in age for Ann, but couldn't see a possible baptism in 1827 in Sheffield. Is it likely that Thomas would have been a labourer in 1824 but a book keeper by the marriage in 1846??

Ian - maybe a long shot but well worth looking into, thanks so much.

Amondg - I will have to look up the witnesses and come back.

My main issue, to progress back, is trying to decide whether Thomas Wilson married Ann Wilkin in 1811 or Ann Washington in 1817 or yet another Ann I have yet to find.

All suggestions welcome!
Thanks again

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Marriage of Thomas Wilson of Sheffield
« on: Friday 17 May 24 12:38 BST (UK)  »
The marriage record for my 2x gt grandmother Ann Wilson to Benjamin Parkin in 1846 at Sheffield Cathedral gives her father as Thomas Wilson, a book keeper.
I have a baptism for an Ann Wilson to Thomas and Ann at Sheffield Cathedral 11 Apr 1824, DOB 24 March 1824.
In the 1841 Census for Stafford St., Sheffield, there is a Thomas Wilson,50 born Yorkshire, wife Ann, 50, children William, Thomas, Ann all 20, Mary and Sarah 15 (presume all ages rounded) but Thomas' occupation looks like Iron founder.
I cannot find them in 1851.
Looking for a marriage for a Thomas Wilson to Ann there are two possibilities, both at Sheffield Cathedral, one in Oct 1811 to Ann Wilkin and one in Nov 1817 to Ann Washington. I cannot work out which one is correct, in order to go further back.
There is a baptism for a William Wilson to Thomas and Ann in 1818, Sheffield Cathedral and a Thomas Wilson in 1821 (Ann's brothers from the 1841 Census?)
Sorry if this is a bit of a lengthy post, but ,I wanted to give the information I had already found, to save duplication of effort, and which may or may not be correct.
Please can anyone help or advise how to get the correct Thomas/Ann marriage.
Thanks for reading,

Technical Help / Re: Problem ordering £2.50 death certificate from GRO
« on: Friday 03 May 24 11:52 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for all the replies. I deleted the original order for the 1870 death for Benjamin Parkin having found information online suggesting a death in 1864 was more likely. ( I had options between his daughters birth in 1864 and the 1871 census, when his wife is a widow).
My first attempt, with the original bank card, came up with the same message of 'cardholder validation failed' so I clicked on the ends of the address boxes, which were already filled in from my login and have now been successful in ordering this 1864 certificate.
It seems to be the person I was looking for. Just need to find out who Thomas Parkin, the informant, is now.
Hope this may help someone else if they get any problems.
Thanks again

Thanks again for your hints and tips to solve this issue. The death certificate I am trying to get is for Benjamin Parkin for 1870. I am hoping it is my gt gt grandfather and that the informants name will tie in with his wife's (Ann) or another family member.
I got the information from Free BMD - district Barnsley, ref 9C 117 - and the system seems ok with that, the correct information comes up in my 'basket' but, I just cannot get the payment accepted, same message. I have tried again this afternoon with no luck.
Maybe it's trying to tell me I have the wrong person!

Thank you for replying. I have tried again this morning to complete the order but the message is still the same. Now I know it isn't just me, I will wait a while longer and keep trying.
Thanks again

I have tried to order a £2.50 death certificate today, using my usual card but keep getting 'Cardholder Validation failed' notice. Have used same card before without issues. Is anyone else having a problem? Have tried re entering details and a different card but no luck. Any advice please.

I think my Hammond(s) family may be connected to this family. My 2xgt grandfather John Hammonds was born in North Kilworth c1798 son of John and Elizabeth(Bale). My 3xgt grandfather, John, died in North Kilworth in 1844 age 78 but was not born there, as far as I can see and the closest match I could find to his birth is a baptism at All Saints Loughborough 1st Feb 1766, to John and Sarah. I think he had a sister Ann baptised there in 1767.
I found a marriage of a John (Possibly my 4x Gt grandfather) , born c1744 to Sarah Smith in 1764 in Prestwold, daughter of George Smith, but I have never been certain these are the right family and therefore have struggled to go back further. The surname seems to have been common in the Walton on Wolds, Prestwold and Loughborough area.
