Northamptonshire / Re: Tebby Family Aynho
« on: Saturday 03 December 16 20:46 GMT (UK)  »
I know this is a old post, familyfinder2 was last active - Sunday 30 August 15 09:22 BST (UK)

It looks like my wife descends from Samuel Tebby b about 1846 in Aynho, Northamptonshire, son of James Tebby born abt 1792 in Aynho, Northamptonshire and Elizabeth born abt 1802 in Over Worton, Oxfordshire. (per 1851 Census)

I've just started researching my wife's Tebby ancestors and we very recently met a couple of her Tebby 1st cousins in Warwickshire whilst we were holidaying in the UK.

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply!

I think we (or rather your wife and me) could be related. Samuel is a younger brother of my great great grandmother. Have you seen this site re Samuel incidentally?

http://www.ourfamtree.org/browse.php/Samuel-Tebby/p433654

One thing I will mention in case you are unaware is that James Tebby married twice, firstly, in 1814, to Betty GARRETT and secondly, in 1824, to Elizabeth PRATT. Samuel (and my great great grandmother) therefore descend from Elizabeth PRATT.

All the best to you both.

I am doing my family tree, i have been doing it the last 2 years on and off i have done a lot and this site has been a godsend the family on my grandmothers father side is almost done but there are a few things i need to make sure i have right.
Thomas Hyde married a Mary armytage on The 26th June 1803 at st Michael's church ashton under lyne.
i have the marriage certificate but from this year there are no witnesses or there ages on it they had 8 children i have found john 1804 Ann 1805 Sarah 1807 thomas 1809 Andrew 1812 Henry 1814 George 1816 Eliza 1818 i think all the children were born in ashton under lyne they all were baptised at the same church where thomas and Mary were married.

I need to find out the ages of thomas and Mary and where they were born i dont know how i am going to find out this can anyone help.

The 1851 census shows a Thomas HYDE age 74 and his wife Mary HYDE age 73 living at 1 Avon Street Ashton Under Lyne Stalybridge.

Birth years shown are 1777 and 1778 respectively.

Hiya Lin...www.freebmd.org.uk

HYDE Mally   mar qtr 1843   Ashton and C (Oldham)    20  90 (christened 16th April 1843 St Michael Ashton u Lyne ,father James - mother Mary - extracted record)

Hyde Mally  mar qtr 1844    Ashton & L (oldham) 20 90

so 2 different births...notice the same register number  20 90 ??...so uncanny   but a year apart ....have you checked on lan-opc ??...I think Oldham is covered to some extent....back soon....allan
The other Mally Hyde married a James Mason in 1864 at st peters  Ashton under Lyne district ;D

Yes I made that mistake and gave up when I discovered that Mally MASON died in the June quarter  of 1876 aged 31 in Ashton so, given that you found "your" Mally HYDE in 1881, Mally Mason nee HYDE can be eliminated from the search.

:)Searching for Tebby family OXon from about 1820. John and Cornelia Tebby. Also Sarah Clarke born 1853 Necton Norfolk. Last heard of working in London in 1875 as a dom.serv. for an antiques dealer in Vauxhall Bridge Road name of Richard Dyce.  Have traced to 1871 census but nothing after that. Sarah was still in London in 1875.  Possible emigration to USA.  Any suggestions or advice please.
thanks  winewizard.

Some information below I posted for somebody elsewhere which MIGHT be relevant to you.

I realise your post was a while ago and you may have subsequently found the information yourself BUT the marriage of your grandfather, Francis Aubrey Tebby (born c1905) to Rose F King was registered in the June quarter of 1930 in Kidderminster.

Francis Aubrey's father was Aubrey John Tebby (born c1876) his marriage to Ethel Beatrice Brickell was registered in the December quarter of 1902 in Portsmouth.

Aubrey John's father was Henry Tebby (born c 1849) and his marriage to Maria Gosling was registered in the December quarter of 1871 in Oxford.

Hope this is of interest and assistance to you. If not my apologies!

Henry Tebby's father was John Tebby (born c1820) and his marriage to Cornelia Clarke was registered in the March quarter of 1841 in Thame.

That is as much as I can relatively easily tell you. Henry was born in Stoke Talmage (as was Cornelia) whilst John was born in Kingston Berkshire.

One again hope this helps!

Thanks for that,
I admit i'm not 100% which census you're referring to with Laura E Callow/Tebby, but I have come to the conclusion that Annie Kemsley and Annie/Hannah Callow are in fact sisters from the Tebby family and daughters of William.
I also believe that Agnes is in fact Oliver Gibbs' daughter and that for whatever reason him and Hannah separated. I do not believe there was ever a marriage between Hannah and James Callow for that reason, however given his age I havent ruled out the possibility that he may also have been married before. At present however, this mystery remains unsolved.

I'm referring to the 1901 Census as set out in reply #2 higher up the thread.

I've come to the party late on this one.

However I can tell you that the Laura E CALLOW, Sister, 23, born Souldern Oxfordshire on the 1901 census is almost certainly in fact Laura Ellen TEBBY, another daughter of William  and Ellen (formerly Robins) TEBBY. The very same William shown in a post above above living with his widowed daughter Annie M KEMSLEY with Agnes A GIBBS as a visitor on the 1901 census. The 1881 census shows a 3 year old Laura Ellen TEBBY, born in Souldern, living with her parents and brothers "near station Aynho."

I would therefore be very inclined to think that "Annie Elizabeth" is probably Hannah Elizabeth as this is additional evidence given that we know Annie M KEMSLEY (formerly TEBBY) is living in Croydon with her widowed father William at this time.

Hope this helps...

Dear familyfinder2

This is most intriguing!

John Flynn and Emily Podger were my great grandparents although I actually know very little about them. They were married on 29 September 1886 at St Mary of the Angels, Paddington. I have an old photocopy of their marriage certificate but strangely can find no reference to them or their children in the 1891 or 1901 censuses and no record of their childrens' births/baptisms.

The family reappears in the 1911 census in London. John and Emily are living with three unmarried daughters: Catherine 23, Mary 18, and Margaret 14 and one son, John Leonard 12, my grandfather. However, the census form does state that John and Emily had FIVE children all still living in 1911. According to the census form Catherine, Mary, Margaret and John were all born in Westminster.
Until I found the 1911 census I had believed that my grandfather had only two sisters, Mary and Margaret both of whom I remember from my childhood.

Now the plot thickens. With the marriage certificate I also inherited a photocopy of a 'Certificate of Registry of Birth' for ELLEN MARY Flynn dated 11 July 1889 in Lambeth. For a long time I thought this related to my 'Auntie' (great aunt) Mary, born about 1893, but as the census gives her age as 18 in 1911 this is clearly not the case. Consequently I rejected Ellen Mary as a member of the family mainly because I couldn't imagine John and Emily naming one daughter 'Ellen Mary' in 1889 and another daughter 'Mary' in 1893 - but perhaps I was wrong!

So, it seems Ellen Mary might well be the missing child, a year younger than Catherine and four years older than Mary. If so, my grandfather, the baby of the family and not born until 1898, was the brother Ellen Mary left her money to in the '50s. I will contact my mother's surviving sisters to see if I can glean any further information but I won't 'hold my breath' as the say.

I would be interested to know how you were able to link your Ellen Mary to John and Emily and would be grateful for any further snippets of information, however insignificant, you might be able to let me have.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Gerald Sleeman
