Hi

I am just catching up with you, looking at the information I have it does seem that Isabella was born in Dunbar as I first thought, how she somehow managed to get herself from one side of Scotland to the other is a mystery although people were much more mobile that it is generally supposed.

The family seemed to have moved to Greenock sometime between 1831 and 1836 from that point on I have a complete record to the present day.

I suppose my next move will be to try to track down Blacks in Haddington/Dunbar.

You guys seem to be really on the ball and thank you for your efforts on my behalf.

Kind regards

Hi

Many thanks for your interest in my post.  It kind of fits in some ways and in lots of others doesn't if you know what I mean!

Isabella Black seems to have been born in Dunbar, but I could be misreading this as Dunrod.  One of my problems is that I am not familiar with Scottish placenames and their relationship to one another which doesn't make life any easier.  There are certainly a multitude of spelling of McMeekin!!

I will have a good look and see whether there is any firm link.

Many thanks again.

Kind regards

Can anyone help with McMeekin (there are an unlimited number of spellings) James and Isabella Black (born Dunbar) married 17.11.1823. Stranraer, they then moved to Greenock between 1831 and 1834.  James was a shoemaker and they had four children Isabella, Jane, Alexander and John.

Hope you can help.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Is this the same man?

Hello again

I have had a look at my file and it is far from straightforward, I think you may have missed the family in 1851. Perhaps it might be easier if we contacted directly as there is quite a bit of information and some more mysteries to untangle.

I certainly don't have all the answers, and like all delving into family history you solve one mystery only to have another one on your hands!

What do you think?

Hi
I read your post with interest as I am directly related to Commander Robert Welch RN through my maternal line.  He was my 4 x great uncle, I have done quite a bit of work with the family and there is a good deal of confusion about his children and their descendants.
I will dig out my file on the family and see what I have which might help to clarify the situation.
Other members of Robert Welch's family varied in their occupations and prosperity, his brother Thomas (my line) was a Gunner, RN and although not an officer was comfortably off due to his share of prizes and permanent post on board ship.
Kind regards

« on: Saturday 13 August 11 20:01 BST (UK)  »
I am trying trace a marriage of William Irving to Elizabeth ???? exact date not known but judging by the age of their children could be around 1809.  They seem to be settled in Middle Clift Kirklinton.

Elizabeth was born in Scaleby in 1783, William place of birth unknown 1781.

Many, many thanks in advance for any help you can give.   ;D

I am looking for a death/burial record for George Edward Barlow.
Died 17th January 1865 late of Kyneton, Victoria. Died Lauraville Murray District. Is this a differnt place or just the district Kyneton is in?
He originally came from Manchester, Lancashire, England and was married to Fanny Barlow of Southport, Lancashire who applied for the probate.

Thank you if you can help in any way.

World War Two / 82 squadron RAF in India
« on: Saturday 13 November 10 22:32 GMT (UK)  »
My father was Sgt Kenneth Folland, he served in 82 Squadron RAF and when posted to India he and some of his friends formed a swing band.  Whilst sorting through his garage we discovered a book which is an account of all the gigs they played including appearing on All India Radio.

This is a fascinating story of their attempt to keep up morale, Dad was the drummer and keeper of the accounts.

If you have any memories of Dad and his band I would love to hear from you.
