Yes, I would like to get a death certificate but so far I have only seen war dead records from the National Archives and they do not give age at death or date of birth. Is there some other avenue? Can you get a death certificate for a soldier in Records office in Belfast?

Thank you everyone for your prompt help. You have already eliminated one of the possibilities and given me at least one new lead.
One person has queried his death but it seems very clear. According to the Commonwealth Graves Commission he died inManchester 22/1/1917.  The details & army reg they gave fits.

As regards the possibility that he might be a relative. I have investigated that but so far cannot find the connection. But thank you for the thought.

I have 2 WW1 medals awarded to Pte.W.Gilmore , Royal Irish Fusiliers and I would like to pass them to his descendants. According to his war record he was born near Garvagh and died on 22/1/1917 in a Manchester Hospital. He is buried in a Manchester cemetery. From the 1901 & 1911 censuses I have identified 5 (!!) possible W.Gilmore/Gilmour. The son of.....Thos X Martha Ann Gilmore ( Killyvalley,Garvagh) or William X Maggie Gilmore(Kurin,Garvagh) or George X Margaret Gilmour(Crevolea,Aghadowey) or William X Maggie Gilmour(Lisachrin,The Grove) or James X Maggie Gilmour(Ballynagarve,Ballyronan). I know there are a lot of Gilmores but can anyone help narrow the field.  Thanks

Hi1
I am interested in sharing information about McCahon genealogy in Londonderry area especially around Kilrea. My own family came from Culnaman (a townland near Kilrea and not far from Moynock) and I have fairly detailed family tree back to at least 1861. Have you made much progress in your researches on the McCahon side?

Dear John,
I am interested in making contact with others who are  pursuing Mccahon genealogy and especially of family originating in the Kilrea area of Londonderry. My family came from Culnaman, a townland between Kilrea and Garvagh and I have fairly complete detail back to 1861 which I am willing to share.  Have you made any progress yourself?

I have been researching McCahon Family around Kilrea and have produced a family tree back to George that includes the information you mention (see below).  Have you additional info on this family? I would particularly like info on George McCahon's parents etc.
One last thought, I have never come across McCaughern/McCaughrn confused with McCahon.  Are you sure they are the same?

I have spent some time recently at PRONI going through the presbyterian church records and I found quite a few marriages and baptisms for the McCahon name around Kilrea. If you are willing to give me more details about your mother i could look at my info. I am keen to build up a picture of how the various McCahons are connected.  My family came from just outside Kilrea mostly Boveedy & Moneydig.

Thanks for this.  No, all I know is that his son George was married in Boveedy Presbyterian Church and George's residence was given as Boveedy.  Dullaghy , Moneydig and Culnaman are other likely possibilities.
