London and Middlesex / Re: Birth of Sarah Hart??
« on: Tuesday 28 May 13 09:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi listers,

Edgar Howe was the 3rd Great Grandfather of my wife and like others I am still searching for information about Sarah.

There is a baptism on FamilySearch that may have a connection and may add to the possibility that Sarah was illegitimate. It also adds to the Wickham Market connection, which is still unconfirmed.

Regards

Hi Nel,

I realise that it is over a year since the last reply on this but I have just looked at James Edward Spain and although he unfortunately is not in my "Spain line" the following may be of interest.

I think the James Edward Spain referred to in a previous post in the Thanet Union Workhouse may be your James. This is a transcription from the 1901 census for the Isle Of Thanet Union Workhouse, Minster Thanet

RG13 Piece: 819 Folio: 127 Page: 5

SPAIN, James Edward Inmate   Married age 33    Bricklayers Labourer born Margate, Kent. This is quite close to the birthdate of 1871.

I too have the marriage as:
Marriage to Elizabeth Ellen Crockford
Margate, Kent, England. Church of St John the Baptist
KFHS PR's Vol:14. Entry 2800 Mar 10 1895 By: Bns SPAIN (X) James Edward (24) Ba (Lab) of 2 Wheatley Place, Margate (S of) John Thomas (Lab) CROCKFORD Elizabeth Ellen (24) Sp () of 2 Wheatley Pl, Margate (D of) Richard Bellard (dec) (Carpenter) Witnessed by: George Cain, Susan Setterfield.

I have the following as his parents:
KFHS PR's Vol 14: 1058 Aug 14 1859 By: Bns
SPAIN John Thomas (23) Ba (Labourer) of High St (S of) John (Labourer)
DAPSON Mary Ann (20) Sp () of High St (D of) Daniel (Labourer)
Witnessed by: Louisa Elisa Jarmin, George Cain,

I also do not have any death dates for either James or Elizabeth.

Hope this is of interest,

Regards

Hi Betty

Thanks for the reply and the information.

I would like to see the details that you have already from the ST Georges records.

Do you know if you have to book a "slot" to view the film records.

Thanks

Pete

Kent Lookup Requests / Foster Family - Deal
« on: Sunday 12 April 09 09:29 BST (UK)  »

I have an Eliza Foster who was christened in Deal on 8th Jan 1823 (IGI). Her father was Henry Foster and Ann Foster (maiden name unknown).

I am keen to understand whether this is sufficient for any one to be able to look up in Deal Parish records for the marriage of Henry and Ann and any other available information.

I am a "newbie" when it comes to what is available from Parish records and how and where these can be viewed.

Thanks

Pete

Thank you Charlotte,

I am looking at the surnames interest link now.

Is there any way that marriage (and birth/death) certs can be "viewed" at local registry offices etc. or do they have to be purchased in order to gain the details of the parents?

I agree it is very addictive.

Pete

Kent / Newbie 1st Post - Dover/Folkestone Parish help
« on: Monday 30 March 09 08:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi
This is my first post and I am a relative newcomer to researching my family tree. I have had reasonable success for the periods covered by existing family knowledge and periods covered by the UK census but am stumbling on certain family links beyond this period.

I have not had any luck using IGI for the TUTT family. Is there any "on-line" searchable access to Kent Parish records available? ( I cannot find anything on Ancestry)

For example I have come to an abrupt stop for the TUTT family around the Dover/Folkestone area.

I have an Edmund Thomas (abt 1819-1860) TUTT married to Caroline Bromley PAGE (Elham, Kent, 1847 A/M/J Vol 5 Page 232). Next step is obtaining this certificate.

Any tips/advice appreciated.

Thanks

Pete
