G'Day Kris

fair dinkum matey, I thought you would find this one by now. No not really, this is a tough one, I believe he emigrated to this fine land around 1854 with his family, it's his parents I'm after.  I realise with out much info it's like diving into that haystack trying to find that damm needle. I appreciate you trying, I'll see if I can find more details.

Oo Roo

Mike

Hi Kris

yes, SS and I both came to the same conclusion with Aquila and Susannah, though I haven't found a record of Hannah's death.  As for his female impersonantion, maybe he discovered the delights of cross-dressing, or maybe he was escaping from someone, yes that's it he was a dangerous criminal on the run, I think I'll add that to Cable folklore.

As for kids names, you think Justin must have had a hard time, I've heard of a Teresa Green, a Thomas Gunn and his brother Raymond.

I do have another query, A Robert Fisher, born around 1839, I believe in Street Somerset.  He could have been the youngest of up to 11 children.  If you can find anything on this gentleman I would be rapped, as they say here in Oz.

thanks

Mike

Thanks Kris, you have been a great help.  I hear so many stories about people finding other people on the same line that I doubt it is just a coincidence, other forces are at work I reckon.

With the case of Timothy Case (please excuse my awful puns, I can't help myself) I'm wondering whether he is in another county at this time, more searching to be done.

I'll check my records over the weekend to see what I have on the Cable boys who went to Wales, I also think one went to London to live.

I'll talk to you again when I have more info.

Thanks again

Mike

PS. I do have one question regarding the gender of Azarriah Cable, I thought it was a female name but I have seen a male with this name, just wondering.

Hi Kris

thanks for your assistance, I am now in PM contact with SS_Rhondda, looks promising.

Now my apologies, in my excitement over the details you gave me, I got confused with Aquila's wife.  Maria Hams is his daughter-in-law.  His wife was Hannah Case, I think she was a bit older that him, born around 1816, her father was Timothy Case.

I have Aquila and Hannah's marriage cert. which shows his dad as James Cable (SS_Rhondda please note, cos I think I told you it was John), so it is very likely that the James Cabble=Ann Plummer you've found are his parents.

As for the names, I'm glad they had the foresight to use unusual ones because it makes it a lot easier finding them.  I have come across a Jabes Cable (B. c1831) off the 1871 census who looks like he may be related to Aquila.  But is this his birth name or just a version of Jabez or even Caleb!?? A bit more digging is required I think.

Thanks again

Mike

Hi Kris

fantastic, you have given me James who I didn't know about, much appreciated.

Maybe you can help with another, Aquila's wife, Maria Hams, born around 1849-51, father, John Hams and mother Ann.  John was a boot maker if that helps. She may not be on the 1851 but should be on the 1861, this would also be a great help.  Thanks again

Hi Rhys

excellent, this looks very promising, I am 99% sure it is Pont senny (Sennibridge), and the weaving link makes sense. It looks like they moved to Carmarthenshire, as Joshua senior was from there. I feel comfortable accepting that this is my ancestor.

This has been most helpful, I am grateful for the combined resources of such a dedicated group. I'll see where this leads me, I'll probably be back, thanks again

Hi SarahJane

excellent suggestion, I have attached the entry in question, when you zoom in it is possible that it could be Pontsenny, what do you think?

Hi Rhys

thanks for your help. Pontsemay is a real mystery, the census record is very clear, there's no other interpretation of the word.  I'm not familiar enough with place names around the Brecon area to do a comparison with other towns.

In 1871 David was living in Llangatock, Carmarthenshire.  I get the feeling that he is probably one of the Myddai Davids, of course the big question is which one.

The only other bit of information that might identify him is that he was a woolen weaver or spinner, I wonder whether his father may have had the same profession.

I appreciate your help Rhys, thanks

Mike
