Anglesey / Re: Mathews/ Matthews Family - Llanallgo (and surrounding areas)

Do you know about a John Mathews b 1889 Llanallgo, who was coxwain of the Moelfre Lifeboat in the parish of Llanallgo for 36 years until he retired in 1954 having won 3 silver & 2 bronze medals for bravery.  His nephew Dick Evans took over from him and is one of the very few who won 2 gold medals for bravery.  If you Google either name with Moelfre Lifeboat you will find lots of tales about them.  Best wishes,    Gwynd

Now found burial record of Edward Garner which had been transcribed as Edward Evans.  (The Rectors handwriting  is not very clear).   He died 10 Feb 1944 age 56 with the address given as Tyn y Coed, Llanbedr, Meirioneth.   He  was buried 14 Feb, 1944 at Llanddwye Parish Church.

There is the parish record of Llanddwywe, near Dyffryn Ardudwy,  of the burial of Grace Garner of Tyn y Coed, Llanbedr, Meirioneth, age 73 on the 3 Jan, 1944.  The Vicar has written  the date of death as 30 Dec, 1943 but its not very clear.  There is however no trace of the burial of Edward.

In the 1939 register a Edward Garner born 24/07/1889,  a farm worker and Grace Garner, born 18/02/1870 are residing at Tyn y Coed, Deudraeth R.D., Meirionethshire.   I think this is  the Penrhyndeudraeth district near Porthmadog,   Could these be them?

I presume you have the parish burial record for Griffith which is on Findmypast.    This shows he was buried  in the Parish of Ffestiniog- district of St David, Meirioneth.     Perhaps if you posted on the Meirioneth section  someone might be able to help you.      Good luck.  gwynd

Hi,   If you go on billiongraves.com  they have photos of 2,709 graves in the Llanrhos Cemetery Old Section.   The burials appear to commence in the 1890's.     However this cemetery is attached to St Hilarys Church which have older graves but unfortunately there are no photos of that section.    Hope this helps.      gwynd

I'm afraid I cant help you with cholera in Cerrig y Dridion but I notice from the photograph that your great grandfather lived at Cilmelyn Farm, Bangor, c 1900.    My great grandfather, William Jones & wife Sarah lived at Gors Cilmelyn, Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor in the 1881 census which was next door to Cilmelyn.    I believe it was on the site of the present day Ysbyty Gwynedd.  Do you have any information about the farm or members of the family that you could share.          Diolch,  gwynd

Hi Rachel,       I was also at St Mary's Church this afternoon and luckily found the grave.  (As Ellenmai said there are a lot of overgrown graves) .     I have taken several  photographs of the grave, church yard and also Lancaster Square which is the address given on the burial records and will work out how to send them to you.   I think I will have to send them by personal mail as there are too many for here.     Also  the grave clearly states Anna and not Hannah which is in the burial record!!
          Best wishes,  gwynd
