Hi Deman,

That's excellent, thank you very much  :) John and Alice are my GGGGG (phew) Grandparents straight through my paternal line. I will contact you through PM later today when I have a bit more time.

This was the very first part of my tree I started looking at last year and have somewhat left it of late, I am related to John and Alice through their son John (b abt 1796). It would be interesting to compare notes.

Hi there,

I was adopted more or less from birth in 1981, so not sure whether this period is the one you want to know about, but I have no problems talking about it.  :)

I have a birth certificate both in my adopted name AND the name that was registered just after my birth. For instance on the BMD records only my first registered name appears, and not my adopted name that I was given at 9 months old.

I didn't know my birth name but sent off for my original birth certificate to the GRO using my adoptive name and a few other details.

Legally my name is my adoptive name as this over-rides the name I was given at birth. However my first birth certificate will still be on record and an official document.

Hope this helps you a bit. Feel free to PM me if you think I can help you any further,

All the best, Em

Hi Judy,

This looks like his birth:

Dec 1883

Richardson    Philip Henry   Northallerton   9d   639

I can't help with any of the emigration but it might help people look for him...Hope you find some answers.

Em

The Common Room / Re: Richard KINLIN...a puzzle!

Well, can I heck as like find any birth registrations for Richard b 1848 Manchester and his sisters Ann and Mary :'(. Any help welcomed  :)

Even going countrywide nothing obvious springs up with any of them. I thought I was going to have problems tracing the Kinlin family back to Ireland (which I wouldn't know where to start with) but I can't find any of their births on the mainland...is it possible they weren't registered?

Hello there,

Have you tried http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ ? Just search for "thornton-le-dale" and you can look at old maps of the village...my internet connection is being a bit sluggish so the maps aren't working very well for me at the moment to move around but there are 7 different years maps (from 1854 to 1927) and you can make out the street names...hopefully this may help you locate where your streets were  :)

Good luck, Em

Just pop over to the Yorkshire (North Riding) board if you need any help with Redcar information.

Teesside Archives in Middlesbrough hold all the records for the Redcar area, in case you didn't know.

Contact details on this web page: http://www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/leisure-and-culture/archives/

Also Redcar Library might be able to help: http://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/Libraries

Good luck with your searching  :)

Em

*EDIT* I've just seen your new thread on the North Riding board and realise I was too late to be helpful and you already know all this, sorry about that!

Hi there,

I think it is Lime Road, the road is still there in Redcar too, if you google maps it, it's not far from the sea front  :)

Em (who likes to go to Redcar on a summer's day)  ;)

The Common Room / Re: Found Anyone Famous
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 18:44 GMT (UK)  »
I have just found online a photograph of my GG grandmother's brother in a 1906 Middlesbrough Football Club team photo.

He's sat just down the row from Alf Common, the first £1000 footballer  ;D (How times have changed!)

I still need to do some digging as he is not showing up on the professional players online database, perhaps he was a reserve player. Still, very exciting for me, maybe that's because I am a Boro fan!  ;)
