hi, i would appreciate a census lookup for 3 families in greenock, scotland. i dont have much to go on, as i keep hitting a brick wall with this lot.

Bonar, Daniel, head
Bonar, Sarah, wife
possibly living at 3 Dellingburn Street, Greenock,

Gavan, Martha, widow
possibly living at 3 Dellingburn Street, Greenock.

Gavan, Charles, age 25/26, shipbuilders labourer.
Gavan, Elizabeth, wife, age 23/24.
Gavan, Charles, son, age 2/3
possibly living Main Street, Greenock.

thanks in advance for any help, as it is much appreciated

Hi Gill,

My Great Grandfather was James Bonnar, he was married to Sarah Bonnar (Cairns) and lived in Greenock. The only street i have searched is Cartsburn Street. James father was Daniel Bonnar and mother Sarah Bonnar (McPake) who possibly lived in Dellingburn Street which isnt far from Cartsburn.

One of James and Sarah's kids was my Grandmother Annie Bonnar McNab who married Donald McNab from Wemyss Bay Street Greenock. Annie sadly died during child birth in 1939 but had a brother called James Bonnar although i haven't done any research on him at the moment.

This info may be of some help if it's the same family. If i can help in any other way just let me know

Best regards

Alan

Hi folks

Not been on the site in a while due to work etc. Managed to trace my McNab ancestors to the correct area and in Greenock and not Argyllshire as first thought !.

But i eventually found that my GG Grandmother Christina McVean McNab's parents Donald and Catherine McVean hailed from the Strachur area, and that's where i was going wrong.

If anyone can help with the above names it would be appreciated.

Alan

I don't believe I'm on that site already and never knew an Argyll Battalion were part of it. I keep track from my days in Minden from 89-93 in Elizabeth Brks. Thanks again and I will bookmark the other link tomorrow.

Linda,

Just a quick one

My grandfather was Donald McNab, he was married to Annie Bonar McNab, she died during childbirth in 1939 in Greenock, i managed to find her resting place before my late mother passed away. I think Donald ( or Dougie ) as we called him his middle name was McVean.

He brought up 3 daughters, my mother Elizabeth Catherine McNab, Sarah McNab and Christina McNab ?
