Dublin / Re: FREE LOOK UP FOR DUBLIN, IRELAND.

Dear Catherine

I wonder if you might have time to help me look for my g-grandfather Edward, born around 1864, probably in Dublin, although the family was originally from County Clare.  I am also desperately seeking his father, Arthur William Cowan, all we know about him is that he supposedly died of yellow fever in South America.

I really would appreciate any information you might have, as I'm completely stuck on this side of the family.

Thanking you in advance,

Regards

Robert

Could anyone please look up Annie  COWAN, who was listed on the 1881 census as living at 4 Ripley Street, Hulme with her son Edward and others.  I would be particularly interested to track down any details of her husband, probably Arthur William COWAN.

I'm really stuck on this side of the family, could anyone please help??

Many thanks in advance

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1861-71 Census lookup - Annie Cowan

Best wishes to all for the new year!!

Could anyone please look up an Anne Cowan (née Brew), born circa 1841 in Ireland, but living in the Manchester / Salford area?  Her husband was called Arthur William Cowan (also Irish), and she may have had a son called Thomas (born circa 1859).

Secondly, Arthur William is said to have died in South America of yellow fever - how does one go about tracking down his death???

Many thanks in advance

Seasons greetings to all!

Does anybody know how I could get access to parish records for Sandy.  There seem to have been Freemans and Balls there since at least the 16th century!

Any information gratefully received

Thanks in advance

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1851/61 lookup Edwin ROBINSON
« on: Tuesday 28 December 04 12:58 GMT (UK)  »
Dear skb

Thanks for the info, I think this probably is the right Edwin Robinson, as he is listed as a 'fitter' on his son's marriage cert., and this seems to fit.
Intriguingly, we also know that he died fairly young and his wife remarried someone called Entwistle.  On the 1881 census, there's a Catharine Entwistle, born Scotland, aged 38, married to a Richard Entwistle.  Do you think they could be the same person - according to the 1861 census, Catherine was aged 20, i.e. born around 1840, but the Catharine (sic) on the 1881 census was aged 38, i.e. born around 1843.  Do you thnk they could be the same person?  I would be grateful for your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks again for all the info

Dear Krises

Thanks for your help, I think you're right as well!

That's what's so great about family history, it's solving mysteries - gives you a real buzz, doesn't it?

Thanks again

Dear Krisesjoint

This one stumped me for a while, but I think I've cracked it.  The Thomas you found on the 1871 census must be Thomas Rothwell 'Junior' , as the Thomas I was looking for (b.1811) was also a greengrocer at 1 Albion Street, according to the 1861 census.  I can only presume that Thomas Senior  must have died sometime between the two censuses and that his elder son took over the family shop.  I couldn't understand why none of the family members or ages were the same between the two censuses, but I think if the son took over the father's business, that would explain it.

What do you think?  Plausible?

Thanks ever so for your help and seasons greetings
