As they seem to have been buried at St. Joseph's cemetery , Tory Top Road, Cork  the online records for this cemetery go up to 1917.  There are further burial registers in hard copy - and maybe if you contacted the Cork Archives they might be able to look up both burial entries for           Michael Raymond and Frank O'Shea.   Their names are listed on the www.irishgenalogy.ie however their death certificates are not available.

Frank O'Shea   https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/view/?record_id=0c9e5f72a2-1260210
Michael Raymond  https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/view/?record_id=0c9e5f72a2-1260193

Cemetery burials online at the Cork Archives.ie

The hard copies of entries for 1874 to 1947 are available in hard copy at the Cork Archives in Blackpool Cork.    Maybe if you contacted the Archives you could at least get the Section numbers, and the possible locations of the graves at St. Josephs.  It is a huge cemetery and most of the burials are not strictly in definitive rows although 1940 burials might be in the newer sections.

https://www.corkarchives.ie/

If you get that information you could come back to us and maybe we could have a look to see if the graves can be found.  Do you know if they are C.W.G.C graves ?

Hope this helps.

I'm the Mary you referred to in your December post.

I think I have found the connection to yourself through the Fitzgerald surname????

I'm back to say you are also related to my husband through DNA???
Thankfully my husband and I  are not related to each other!!!.

My husband's family came from the North side of the City.

So a lot of coincidences.

Hi,

I had a look at my database and I photographed this cemetery in 2005 however I didn't get to take all of the headstones.   As we don't know if the lady in the photo is standing beside the Ross grave it seems things have changed since that photo was taken.

I have one photo taken of the left hand side of the church and it shows just one grave with full railings around it similar to the white ones in the old photo.  It seems there was an extension to that side of the church and maybe the railings had to be moved for some graves.   The railings with the lady does not show a standing headstone - it might be out of view.

It is definitely the same church as in my photo there are 4 pinnacles on the mid section of the spire the same as in the old photo.

If you have any other surnames linked to this Ross family we might be able to find some headstone relevant to this family.

It is definitely St. Michael's  Church of Ireland and all of the burials here are definitely Protestant.  No Catholics.

People with the Ross surname were mostly Protestants.   Link from www.irishgenealogy.ie just key in Ross Cork and select marriages -
show these marriages for Cork City and the majority of Ross entries were for St. Finbarr's Cathedral ( C of I), St. Nicholas ( C of I)  Douglas ( St. Lukes C of I) .

Hope this is some help

Hi,

You are probably on your Irish trip at the moment.

Unfortunately your search is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Do you know when James arrived in the US?   Have you checked the ship's manifests on Ancestry? You might be lucky and find that a parent 's name and address as next of kin may be found on them.

Have you been able to access James' Naturalization records? Often on these records the location of the townland area and the parents names were recorded on these documents.   Sometimes they might just say Donegal.

Did you have any very close DNA matches that currently live in Donegal?  Have you contacted any of them as they might have information on the area/parish your Breslan/Sheerin families came from.

Headstones can be another valuable resource in trying to find Ancestors however in the early to mid 1800's most of the poorer people would mark a family grave with a simple stone.  Later on when their family who emigrated to the US would pay for a lovely headstone to be put up in their memory.

Some Headstone sites   www.igp-web.com/headstones   index searchable
                                   www.historicgraves.com    also searchable
                                    www.findagrave.com/donegal

As you already know these surnames are so common in Donegal it is so difficult to pinpoint the parish/district where James came from.

Donegal is a stunning area and even if you don't find your relations there you will still have a wonderful time.

Best of luck,

Mary
