My thanks to contributors for their information. The former Enoggera Hotel is said to have been situated Farm Street and Enoggera Road which would have it in proximity to the now Newmarket Primary School. From memory (I grew up in Enoggera and left the area age 21) not a long distance from the current Newmarket Hotel. Mrs Rossiter's intemperate deed would still be punishable by law in certain areas of Queensland.
I have not been able to find birth details for either John Rossiter or Jane Hending. John's birth could have been c1783 from death record 23/11/1862 age 79. This year is given support from a copy of his gravestone inscription the year date not being legible. However the transcriber (who took the photo) has 17/11/1863 age 80. Jane, from the same inscription, 23/8/1832 age 47. The death record 27/8/1832 age 45 placing her birth year 1785 to 1787. Would welcome any corrections or information.

John McGovern or Magauran and Anne Pearce were my gg/grandparents. My g/grandmother Gertrude McGovern married Frederick Yeates in 1883 their daughter Marion Yeates being my grandmother. Gertrude Yeates died England 1887. Marion Yeates as Johnson emigrated to Australia in the early 1900's where she died Brisbane 1936. From census details have John McGovern born Cavan, Ireland but have not been able to find out further details. Have his father's name Bernard Magauran from marriage cert to Anne Pearce. There are people on this site with quite a lot of information re Yeates especially the Irish family tree. Hope I have been of some help.

Thank you for replies. I had searched the sites on the board and found two gg/grandparents (Balmoral) and grandfather (Mt Gravatt). I am looking for my mother, her mother and her parents who all died in Brisbane. They are not listed on the council cemetery sites so thought there may be rc burial indexes (older ones rc's from Ireland). Will contact Nudgee cemetery. Thank you

Cavan / John Bernard McGovern c1819

Hello, I know this is a longshot as do not have parish or townland etc. Looking for birth details for John Bernard McGovern born c1819 Cavan (from 1851 Census when living Liverpool) He married Anne Pearce 1839 Cleobury Mortimer his name on marriage cert as Magauran father Bernard Magauran. All records after known as McGovern including my g/grandmother's birth and marriage certs.
This is about all the relevant information I have on him.
