Renfrewshire / Re: Kennedy's of Greenock
« on: Tuesday 17 May 16 21:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi John
I have just been clearing out my emails and found an email from Roots chat, so followed the links.  i have not done any Family History since 2009 when the last census came out!
Since my post about the Kennedy family I have made many discoveries regarding my Father's mother, Daisy Angus and her new family when she married David Kennedy in 1924.  Give me some time to look through my folders and get my head around where we cross over, and hopefully we may be able to update each other.  I too have found living relatives in Greenock and went there to find my grandmothers grave and visit the Watt Library where the records are held.

I have found a Leonard Angus on a ship heading for Canada:
leaving Sothampton 28 Jul 1928 for Quebec on the Albertic.
Also inbound on 25th 1930 in London departing from Montreal, Quebec.
But is he my relation?
dob 27/12/1911 born in Greenock, Scotland. Has two sets of relations already in Canada both in Ontario- Aunt Matilda Holdsworth and brother Herbert Angus.
Does anyone have access to A30 landings documents which will give details of where he was going to?

Many thanks
Linda

Worth a try.
I will see if I can find anything else on the 1901 census with the parents names supplied.

Hi Tommy

Going on the hunch that the workers for the torpedo factory all came from Plumstead (where they lived) and worked in Woolwich, I have looked up Thomas on Ancestry.  I have a family in the 1901 census living in Ann Street (the same street my family lived at various times). When the census was taken Plumstead and Woolwich were in Kent, England but are now classed as  London.

Head of the family is Charles Clarke- steal machinist aged 45
wife Maryanne 45
daughter Nellie 21
Maud 15
Mary 13
and Thomas aged 11.

My grandmother was 13 when she went up to Greenock with her family, so they may have been at school together.

Have you tried Scotlands people for the marriage certificate of Thomas's marriage which will give you lots of information.  Unfortunately I am out of credits at present otherwise I would have checked it our, but anyway would need your grandmothers maiden name for confirmation.  Marriage certicicates for that period can be viewed on the webpage.

Hope this helps.

Aberdeenshire / Re: Angus/Fraser Old Machar

I have returned to this branch of the family after hitting a brick wall!  By chance I was trawling through births for another part of the family on Ancestry and a name jumped out which followed the pattern of naming in the family: Agnes Annie (mothers name) Fraser (mothers maiden surname) Smith ( grandmothers maiden name) ANGUS.  Then used this name to trace census's on Find my past as no trace on Ancestry, and found the family : father deceased but mother and four children.  What a find.
I wonder why having tried to search under mothers name that the family did not come up on any search.

I sent for certificates and it is the right family.

Thanks for replies to this post.

Canada / Herbert and Lilian Angus-emigrated 1921
« on: Wednesday 18 August 10 20:45 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to help from Roots chat friends I now know that my Great Uncle and great aunt went out to Herbert's aunt Matilda Holsworth in Ontario Canada in 1921.

I also have been informed that Herbert crossed the boarder to Detroit in 1929.Herbert and Lilian lived in East Windsor at this time.

When they emigrated they had a son Herbert who was about 2 years old.

Did they have any more children in Canada?

When did Herbert jnr marry: I know he had a daughter as I have a photograph of her in her first communion dress, but have no name for her.

Can anyone help?

Canada / Matilda and Frank Holdsworth emigrated 1913
« on: Wednesday 18 August 10 20:36 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to help from Roots chat friends I now know that my 2 X Great Aunt Matilda and her husband Frank Holdsworth emigrated to Ontario, Canada two days after their marriage in 1913 in Billericay, Essex, England.

Matilda was 45 when she married and Frank was 30 years old.  They both worked in the workhouse in Brentwood.

Their address in Ontario was Horton Street, London, Ontario.

Can anyone find if they had any children there?

Thanks

Linda

Canada / Re: ANGUS family emigrated 1921

Hi all

Just a continuation of my enquiries: where will I be able to view the Detroit boarder crossing documentation and the Form 30A arrival documents?

Is there any way I could trace decedents from these families: ie. births, marriages and deaths.  Are these on line in Canada?

Regards

Linda
