Herefordshire / Re: Surname interest MAUND ?
« on: Saturday 03 November 12 20:59 GMT (UK)  »
My GG Grandmother was Mary Maund, she married Thomas Gittings on 31.5.1842 in Tenbury. Her father is named as Thomas Maund, labourer. Mary is aged 22 at the time of her marriage giving a birth year of c 1821 (1821 is birth year in census also). On her daughters birth certificate she is named as Mary Ann Maund. In the 1851 census her birth place is Tenbury, and in 1861 it is recorded as Kerwood and in 1891 Bromyard.
Is anyone able to throw any light on who her father and mother were ?

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: FELSTEAD Baptism Lookup Please!

I am following this family line as well....I've looked at the Felsted parish transcript for 1735, the marriage for Thomas Livermore and Ann Rumsey as written thus
" May 13 Thomas Livermore and Ann Rumsey were married" later on the same page and in the same hand is written
"Oct 6th Tho Livermore and Ann Smith were married"
I wonder if the second 'Tho' is not 'Thomas', but a shortened version of some other name, perhaps Theodore (if that was a name in use there and then), or something similar

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Who was Emanuel Brecknell's first wife?

Hi Carole,
I don't have a lot of information, and don't know if Mary Chamerlain was a spinster when she married Emanual.
IGI give a christening of a Betsey Brecknell on 2.8.1834 at Stockton on Teme, parents are named as Emanuel and Mary Brecknell, and IGI have a Mary Chamberlain and Emanual Brecknell marrying on 12 May 1838 in Kidderminster, and another child, Emma Brecknell being christened 13.6.1842 a Abberley, and parents are given as Emanuel and Mary Brecknell. So, that is what left me wondering if he had a marriage before Mary Chamberlain (also a Mary).

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Who was Emanuel Brecknell's first wife?

Emanuel Brecknell is living in Abberley at the time of the 1841 census (he is a farmer), his wife is Mary and they have 4 children, Charles (9), Betsey (6), Thomas(4) and Harriett(2). Emanuel married Mary Chamberlain in Kidderminster on 12.5.1838, so it is likely that the 3 oldest children were from a previous marriage.
Of the 3 older children, both Betsey and Thomas are recorded in the 1851 census as being born in Stockton, whereas the younger sibs were all born in Abberley.
Does anyone have access to records which might show a marriage for Emanual Brecknell in early 1830s while he was living in Stockton?
many thanks

Hi Mags,
Robert Dehnam and Jean Mackenzie of Berwick are my 4xggp, although I have no detail except their names from their son James's death record, I wonder if they are the same Robert and Jean you have on your tree ?

Hi Steve,
From reading my grandfathers military records it looks like he was appointed as a musician in 1877, but it does not tell us what instrument he played (and family stories don't tell us either), do you have any suggestions on how we might find anything about his history in the regiment out?
thanks,
Trevor

Hi Steve,
Thank you for this information about the 48th. My grandfather joined them in 1871, I have his regimental records, but they don't give me details such as the ships that transported them or where in India they were stationed. I have Aunts and Uncles born in Ireland, Preston, Aldershot, Warley (where my Dad was born) and Bangalore, so having some detail to fill the story is great. As far as I can tell my Grandfather was not involved in any battles, but he did bring back a butterfly collection from his last time in India. He discharged in 1895.

Hoping you might be able to help with my search for details of my grandfather William Campbell McKay who enlisted with the 48th in 1871 as a 14 yr old and was discharged in 1895. From the records I have found in the NA, he was a musician for some of his time. Children born in Ireland, Aldershot, Warley and India. I would like to know where and when he was in India as he made a butterfly collection in India which is now in the Colchester Museum, perhaps you have some details that might help ?
many thanks
