Hi

Thank you for that one,

It is a possible, Salford was on the Manchester Ship Canal, and the docks where open to the world.

Great Grandad was I believe an alcoholic, so perhaps liked to take a nip of the barrels!

Thanks once again :D

Hi Catherine,

What a blessing to find you.

I am needing help on my Grandparents, on my fathers baptism certificate in Calicut India, their names are stated as Peter Doyle and May Elizabeth Doyle.

In a letter from an old aunt who married my uncle Michael Doyle my grandfather was called Peter John Doyle, born in Dublin possible brother called Jack, sisters name unknown.

Grandads wife could also have been known as Elizabeth Josephine surname Dowdall, born Inchicore, Dublin 05.03.1893 she had two brothers Charles and Michael.

Peter Doyle was obviously in the Army as his four children were all born in army barracks,  Tidworth, Bury and Calicut, India.  I have tracked down a Peter Doyle who served with the Lancashire fusiliers who did tours of these towns and countries but with no personal information.
Another possibility is that he was originally with the Dublin Fusiliers and change to the Lancashire Fusiliers on a recruitment campaign in the 1920's.

After this I know nothing, can you possibly help. It is the only line in my history I know nothing about.

One day, I am sure a trip to Dublin will be my only way forward.

Thanks for anything

Regards

Lita

Thanks for the quick reply. It is doubtful it is a mawer as area concerned was highly industrialised not much room for gardens in those days.
