The Common Room / Re: COMPLETED Annie Arnold *Found*
« on: Friday 24 January 20 07:58 GMT (UK)  »
I have been in touch with my mother's family in England & have actually met 2 of my cousins.  Unfortunately, Mum never knew any of this as her dementia was too bad for her to understand.

Family History Beginners Board / Annie Arnold's Family
« on: Thursday 24 March 16 22:07 GMT (UK)  »
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have found & been in touch with my Mother's birth family.  In March 2009 I posted looking for help on Rootschat.  I was given a lot of advise & over the years have availed myself of every bit of information & help I could get along the way.  In January 2016 I received an email from my extended family & am now learning about my Mother's family.  We are in touch every week.  So when you're feeling like you're not getting anywhere remember, it could happen, it happened for me.

Thanks Lizdb.  I'm sorry to take so long to answer but work & real life got in the way.  I have found family living in the area & they are going to ask around the family to see what anyone can remember.

This is new information that I have come across - Annie Elizabeth Arnold is my Mum's birth mother.  I have a copy of the original birth certificate.  My mother was born at Wigginton, Staffordshire, England.  Her birth mother, Annie Elizabeth Arnold was a General Domestic of Coton Old Hall Kingsbury, the informant was Geo. J. Collison, Occupier 100 Wigginton Rd. Wigginton.  Mum was told that her mother worked as a maid at a manor house & died giving birth to Mum.  I have yet to find a death registration for around that time.  I think Mum was told a story & that her birth mother lived.  Where do I go from here?

My dad grew up thinking his name was William Elgin Alexander only to find out when he applied for a passport at the age of 57 that his real name was Alexander William Elgin.  He was called Jack throughout his life.  His brother, Stewart, was known as Shine, his sister, Lillian, was Bubbles, Helene was Babs, Beulah is Bunny and Joan is Dodo.  I just found out this year what their real names were.  It's hard to research when you only know them by their nicknames.  lol

The Common Room / BROCK, William Edward - death
« on: Thursday 06 August 09 04:33 BST (UK)  »
William Edward BROCK, my great grandfather, born 26 Oct 1876 in Lighthorne, Warwickshire, married Annie Maria GADSDEN, born 03 Feb 1878 in Overstone, Northampton had one child, daughter Eva Kezia Emma BROCK, born 21 May 1899.  They came to Canada in the early 1900s and lived in the Vancouver, BC area.  William was arrested on 23 Aug 1918 for failing to register for the draft for WWII in Revelstoke, BC.  About 1925, give or take a year or two, he is rumored to have been killed by a bear in Alaska, USA.  My uncle & I have been unable to find any information about his death.  Any ideas?

Sorry, I guess that is kind of important.  I'm talking the UK.  Sarah was born in Tamworth and married Busby in Warwickshire.  As to Shuttleworth, I assume in the same area of England.  When Sarah returned to England she never got in touch with her Canadian family again.
