Lancashire / Lifeboat Edith
« on: Monday 27 April 09 12:12 BST (UK)  »
At Fleetwood we are celebrating our lifeboats 150th year.
I am trying to find out about our fifth lifeboat called the Edith.
She was a gift from a Miss Carew of Shrewsbury and served at our station from 1887 to 1894 saving 19 lives
We only have one  photo of her in the New Brighton boatyard?
We would love to know if she was actually built at New Brighton as the image is somewhat obscure
It is any additional images we really need to complete our display
Cheers

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Wilpshire Orphanage 1900
« on: Thursday 26 March 09 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
My Grandfather William Eccles b 8th June 1891 at 129 Boxwood Street Backburn was a Guest at Wilpshire Orphanage in 1900 along with his brother David.
I believe that left after being taken on by a farmer in the Guide area of Blackburn and after suffering an accident they where enlisted in Army during World War One his papers coming through on the 9th December 1915.
Due to his slight invalidity he served as a driver in the Transport Service Corps based in Abberville
If anyone has any info re Wilpshire or his WW1 service or  a direction in which I can find out more this would be much appreciated
cheers

Thanks for all your help ladies and gentelmen you certainly have opened up some more avenues
Sadly I have no more documentary evidence at this time with regard to Herbert, Mary or JC. The only other fact is that I have found Herbert and Nancy@s ( Norburn) grave in Darwen Cemetery, it is only a simple grave purchased under the perpetuity scheme with no headstone at the time of both their deaths.
I do apologize for not getting back to you earlier due to working away however thanks again for all your hard work

I am a little unsure if this is the right person as between 1862 and 1880 we actually had a lifeboat called the EDWARD WASEY and this was a gift from a MISS WASEY of NEWBURY so it is possible that EDWARD was from around that area and not Wales

At Fleetwood this year we are celebrating our 150th Year.
We have celebrations all year and have correlated the majority of our stations history

It was a Captain Edward Wasey RN who was the inspecting Officer of the Coastguard  in August 1858 that was instrumental in setting up the service.

Later on he was actually the coxswain and received several medals from the institution Copies of which I have obtained
However I cannot find anything about him on any of the census returns.

Ideally we would love to invite his descendants down to be our guests on 25th July to help us celebrate.

Unfortunately I do not know how to either further my research on Edward of find his descendent's so any help would be gratefully appreciated
Cheers
