Hi Julia

Have you checked the Flannery Clan website (www.flanneryclan.ie)? There are a lot of transcribed records that pertain to your area of interest, and some of our members would be related to the family in question.

Hi Andy

There are quite a few Flannerys around the Sligo / Mayo / Roscommon border, and the border was "adjusted" which can often add to the excitement of finding the right townland.  We have established the genetic signature for a number of Flannery families in the area, and you would be very welcome to compare Y-chromosomes (see our website for details of the Flannery Clan Y-DNA Project).

Alas, we had to cancel.  The next Gathering is scheduled for late July 2010 in Dublin, subject to interest.

Hi Hooch

There is a well known family of Flannerys in Mallow who run a quarry, and they have been in the area for quite a few generations.  Going back in time, one of them trained as a chemist (early nineteenth century when it was not as apothecary) and is linked to the Flannerys of nearby Churchtown & Rathdrum.  Your immediate query would appear to be within the era of civil records and shouldn't be too hard to track down.  Have you applied for the usual civil certs yet?

Hi Tgit

If you ever manage to track down a male Flannery relative, be sure to encourage him to compare Y-chromosomes with the Flannery Clan Y-DNA Project using a quick and easy cheek swab test.  It might help you to advance your research by matching other Flannery families with documented roots in specific locations in Ireland.  Best of luck.
