Lanarkshire / Re: Elinor Jean Dempster
« on: Monday 13 September 10 17:55 BST (UK)  »
 Hello All,
It is interesting that I have not had any notice of this conversation, as I had started it about Anne KERR and Elinor DEMPSTER. I am not sure how this works, perhaps you just have to keep coming back and checking. I have clicked on Notify me of replies.
The only thing that we do know, was that you have the correct person and death for Elinor DEMPSTER, and on her father's death notice in 1940,  of Moses DEMPSTER she was the informant, named Elinor DEMPSTER, daughter, but was not adopted legally till 1945. We do know that she had an illegitmate child in 1946, and so may be perhaps the reasoning for the late adoption, or perhaps it had something to do with Moses DEMPSTER's will or her mother's wishes. Not sure as we have no details about this.
I would love to send a private message with a lot more details on this DEMPSTER and KERR families, in the hopes that others might be able to help.
Thanks so much for the interest,
Judy Anderson (helping Janna Erickson and Donald Ashley KERR) about Ann DEMPSTER later named KERR.

Aberdeenshire / Re: My Aberdeen surnames

In my family from Glen of Coachford, I do have
BREMNER/DUNCAN/STABLES/MICHIE/FORSYTH

I have been searching for years for the actual birthfather of my ggrandmother Ann FORSYTH who was born in 1849 and baptised in 1850.
Her parents were Jane DUNCAN ( who never married), and James FORSYTH. It stated on Ann FORSYTH's marriage cert. to James McDONALD STABLES that James FORSYTH was a Crofter. On the marriage cert. in 1882 in Cairney, it doesn't state that James FORSYTH is deceased.
Jane DUNCAN had another illegitimate child, George MICHIE in 1840 by a James MICHIE. Both of these men were supposedly Crofters and she was a servant on their Crofts.
Interestingly enough, although it could be two different MICHIES, but:
James MICHIES, of New Biggin, having an illegitimate son, George MICHIE bapt. Oct. 30, 1841 in Towie,( mine to Jane DUNCAN) and
James MICHIE, Mill of Towie & wife Isabel Skene had a daughter Margaret bapt. Oct.4, 1841.
  Conincidence, or same James MICHIE??
  Does anyone have this family.
My Jane DUNCAN was the daughter of John DUNCAN and Mary BREMNER both, Glen of Coachford, Cairney.

Hello All,
Yes, you all have the correct information.  I have an EDMOND family Tree on Ancestry.com with many TOBINs in it. I have recently been contacted by Alan Jamieson concerning Alice TOBIN who was a sister to Henry TOBIN who was born in 1892 and married my grandmother, Annie Moir EDMOND's sister, Mary Ann Pirie EDMOND in 1912. I have a few documents on the TOBIN family.
My grandmother's family was from Woodside, Aberdeen.  She married Alexander STABLES in 1908.
There were triplets born in March of 1891. I have one of the triplets, John TOBIN that died, but I also believe that one of the others died as well, the first Henry TOBIN. As, my Henry TOBIN married to Mary A.P. EDMOND was born in the April of 1892.
I can invited guests to see my EDMOND Tree on Ancestry.com, if you would like to see the TOBINs that I have included on there, with documents. Please send along your e-mail address with your names to

Northumberland / Re: Death of Dr. Charles E.H. WEST
« on: Friday 27 February 09 21:03 GMT (UK)  »
Geeze, I had a whole e-mail done, and my hand hit the enter button and it all disappeared.
Thanks again for the info.  I do use Free BMD a lot but somehow must have missed that. I am thinking that his wife, Jane Meldrum Or Meldrum Jane West was only a couple of years older than him, and with him dying at only 59 it is a good chance that she may have either gone to live with her daughter, Dorothy Gertrude CRAIG nee WEST and son-in-law Eric S. WEST married in 1911, and him a medical student, or perhaps gone back to Scotland where she was born and perhaps her family still lived.  Not sure.
Yes, it is a very interesting family.  I don't know anything about this side of the family, though.  It looks as if, the little that I have found of Eric S. CRAIG, that he came from a pretty well-to-do family as well.
  So, on with my search.
Thanks Again,
Judy

Yes, it is a good probability.  He was born in 1864.  Thanks so much for that.  Is there anything on his wife. as noted I have seen her Meldrum WEST and Jane Meldrum WEST nee KNOTT.  Her father was a quite well known portrait artist Tavernor KNOTT and her uncle was a very well known mathemetician, Cargill KNOTT.
I was hoping to track down some family, if they are still alive, through their daughter Dorothy Gertrude CRAIG nee WEST married to Eric S. CRAIG in 1911 who was also a medical student at the time.
Charles E.H. WESTs ancestors were orignailly from Teddington, England. His father, William Henry Hore WEST was in the Royal Marines and his grandfather, Christopher WEST was in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 as a midshipman.  We have a lot of information on that side of the family, but it all seems to stop in 1911 with the marriage.
Thanks Again,
Judy Anderson

Northumberland / Death of Dr. Charles E.H. WEST

I know that he was practicing in Northumberland in 1901 as per Census.  And, that he and his wife Jane Meldrum WEST nee KNOTT, were at his daughter's, Dorothy Gertrude WEST and Eric S. Craig's wedding in Glasgow, in 1911, but have lost him after that.
Does anyone have any records on this family.  They lived in Morpeth, also.
Charles E. H. West ( Edward Harold) was a brother to my husband's GGrandfather, Christopher Harfield WEST, also a physician.
Thankyou in Advance,
