From my memories of both Greta and Geordie, I think there was a degree of give and take.

There is a picture somewhere of John Stewart in the 3rd Duntocher scouts showing him wearing a kilt and they look so much alike.

The Farrens lived in a place called Oldtown, near Culdaff in Inishowen, Co. Donegal.

My grandfather, James McDaid eloped to Scotland with my grandmother Elizabeth Farren and married in Greenock in 1899.
Their journey to Greenock was predicated by the prescence there of Elizabeth's and Mary's brother, Conn Farren.

Greta's mother,Mary and her husband Joseph McGrory lived in Derry where Greta was born and they stayed there for a period and were living in the Duntocher/ Clydebank area in Scotland by the time of the arrival of my grandparents to firstly to Clydebank and then eventually Duntocher.

Their reasons for migration being similar to that of my grandparents being the availability of work on Clydeside and the prescence of family members already there.

My grandparents appear in the 1901 census in Livingstone Street and four years later their third child, John is born and shown as registered in 35 New Street in Duntocher.

My grandparents then remained living in Duntocher alongside the rest of their Farren/ McGrory connection until their deaths.

I never realised how much like Geordie his son John looked.

He was the boss of the family after Greta!

I would reckon we are talking about Ann.

Jim is also my relation as was John Stewart in the usual Duntocher way.

Though staying in Duntocher most of my days, I do not see people much as I work away a lot.

I was just shocked when I saw my "Aunt" Greta's name and then the host of ghosts and memories from the past in the remaining thread.

Hi wms,
Your dad was John Stewart, son of Geordie?  Would that be Wee Geordie married to Gretta McGrory?
If so, John was my cousin.
Helen
b.t.w - I tried your email address, it bounced back ??

There seems to be a lot of relations of Greta McGrory, Morrison, Stewart on here. Can I claim to be one also?

My grandmother Elizabeth Farren is Greta's aunt.

The Farren and McGrory familes are both from the area around Culdaff village in Inshowen.
