Hi,

Just found out more about my McGrogans.

Cornelius McGrogan wed Jane Mulholland,
son Hugh wed Mary Woods (Father James of Co Armagh)
1901 census family lived 11 Great Patrick St
1911 census family lived 23 New Lodge Rd.
Later kids born were Teresa 1911, Hugh 1914-1917, Hugh 1917 and Frances Veronica 1920.

Any information on Cornelius would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Otto,

Considering your dates, he could well be one of mine!  The Hand family were always told they were of French Jewish origin that came to Ireland via one of the Scandivian countries for the linen work many years ago.

It has given me another lead to look into.

Thanks

Hi Otto,

Thanks for letting me know.
It's certainly a small world!  My mother had an uncle Samuel Hand that would have been born between 1916 - 1942.  My Great grandfather Thomas Hand married Elizabeth Neill and they had 13 Children, some or all born in Lurgan although I think my granny (their eldest Elizabeth) born 1914 Waringstown and their youngest born 1944 Lurgan.  There were twins too.
My Hand family are/were a secretive bunch which makes it harder for one to trace! lol

Would you know if he had any family?

Thanks Laura

Hi,

Thanks for the link but I have this. I was a tad rushed when I wrote my original message.
I was able to order one of their brochers as it has a drawing of Samuel Hand, my great great Uncle.  It the first time I have seen what my Hand family looked like.  Other family links like the Hamptons are on there too so hopefully, I may find more links.

Hello Otto,

I was wondering if you may know of any history of my Hand family from Warinsgtown and they too can be found in Lurgan.

I have informtion to my William Hand b.1862 ? died in Waringstown but I am unsure if he married a woman named  Elizabeth Matthews.

One of their sons Samuel is on the Waringstown memorial banner.http://www.ulsterwarmemorials.net/html/waringstown.html

Other names are Neill ( maybe from Loughgilly) Reilly (Cavan), Rowan mixture of Church of Ire & Presbyterian.

Thanks

My John McGrogan wed Margaret Monaghan of Lancaster Street.
There children were Barny, Kathleen (Kitty), Molly died 2003 Liverpool and another son I think.

I know there were more McGrogan links as I have a Margaret McGrogan marrying 1850 to Charles McGregor.

I have lots of other McGrogan information but finding it hard to find who Johns parents were.
