London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Lansdown
« on: Thursday 23 April 09 19:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi.
I have John Lansdown b. Westminster, age 17yrs, on 1851 census  living with his mother (Margaret) and father James, who is a cordwainer.  Are you sure it's Francis?  I haven't looked at the original record.
With thanks
Tracy

Thanks very much for your help.
I think I've just found Elizabeth Martha on the death register.  (Name spelt without the Z!)
Died Dec 1/4 1869, so that solves that mystery.

I'm trying to find any information for John Lansdown.
Born around 1834, Westminster.  Died 1899.
Married Catherine Mahan 1854 and Sarah Brown 1871.

I think His first wife (Catherine) may have died in child birth.
She died Sept 1/4 1869, age 35 yrs, Lambeth.
There is a birth entry for Elizabeth Martha Lansdown Sept 1/4 1869, Lambeth.
Obviously with out a certificate I can't be sure.
I've been trying to find Elizabeth on the 1871 census without success.

Her Siblings;
Catherine Lansdown b.1858, Westminster
Mary Lansdown b.1861, Westminster
Susan Lansdown b.1863, Westminster
Are at 54 Brandon Street, Newington, Lambeth with their widowed father.
Elizabeth is not with the family.

Neither is her eldest sister;
Margaret Lansdown b.1856, Westminster.

The first child of John Lansdown with his second wife (Sarah Brown) was;
Martha Louisa Lansdown b.1872, Camberwell

I have recently had contact from a researcher, who had heard from his mother, that John Lansdown was the result of an upstairs-downstairs liason.
I heard through my family there could be a connection with Lord Lansdown (Marquise?) but no evidence to back this up obviously.
Any ideas how we could find out what really happened to start these family stories?
With thanks

Completed Census Requests / Gill COMPLTETED
« on: Tuesday 03 March 09 16:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have an Edwin Gill born around 1837 in Weston Super Mare area.
On the 1851 census for Weston Super Mare he is 4 years old living with his widowed mother and siblings.
His mother was Sarah Gill, born around 1816 in Cheddar, Somerset.
She died Mar 1/4 1898, 82yrs, Axbridge, Somerset. V.5c, p.412.
Unfortunately, I haven't found her and her husband and their family on the 1841 census , so I don't know her husband's details and therefore not their marriage either.

Edwin Gill went on to marry Elizabeth Bawden.
She was  born in Burnham on Sea around 1845.
They married Dec 1/4 1869. V.5c, p.992 Axbridge, Somerset.
I have been unable to locate Elizabeth on the 1841 census to add to her family.

I would be grateful for any help here please.
With thanks,
Tracy

Hi,
I have a marriage for a George Gyles in Sept 1/4 1860.
Camberwell, Gt.London/Surrey;
V.1d, p.194.
When I looked at the page quoted he is the only person on the page married in Camberwell.  I know his wife was called Elizabeth from census returns, could any one help me find her please?

Completed Census Requests / PLACKETT
« on: Tuesday 03 March 09 15:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I was wondering if any one may be able to help me with the following;

I have a marriage for
Richard Plackett and Susannah Barry
28th April 1829, St.James, Westminster.

I also found a son
Richard Thomas Plackett
christened 24th November 1830, St.James, Westminster.
I have his wife Alice Hurcomb and their two sons, Richard and Henry, on the 1871 census.

I found these details on the Latter Day Saints website.
I can not get back any further than Richard and Susannah.  I would like to try to get back further as I know there is a large distribution of Plackett's in the Derbyshire and Northamptonshire and I suspect this is where his family came from.

With thanks
Tracy
