Hi Liverpool Annie,

GGP is my great-grandfather,my Dad was also named George Gibson Pilmer and Iam Colin (maternal great-grandfather) George (maternal great-grandfather) Pilmer.

I After I retired in 1995 I did genealogy for 15 years and have several Pilmer trees from around the World. Thanks for your reply, I have retired from full-time geneaology but it is hard not to occasionally search for solutions to Brick walls.

My original posting was to try and find why GGP had the middle name Gibson, as this was probably one of his grandparent's name. His father was a John Pilmer born about 1808 in Scotland and his mother was Grace Mathieson born about 1797 possibly in India.

If you acn give me some details of your parents and grandparents I will search the trees to see if you are in one of them.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: Anyone know of Jessie Pilmer - 1870 Dundee?

Hi PWN,

Jessie is a nickname for Janet which can be used when there are to or more Janet Pilmer  living in the same area.

I have a record of;
1. Jessie Pilmer marrying John Carter on 29 Oct 1852 in Swinton & Simprim Parish, Berwickshire

2.Jessie Pilmer born 22 October at Duns, Berwickshire.Daughter of Thomas Fisher pilmer and Isabella Gillan. Jessie married Walter Harvey, no date or place.

3. Janet Elizabeth, age 15,  appears in the 1881 census for Duns, Berwickshire, father John Pilmer. She is the daughter of John Fisher Pilmer and Janet Bell Renton and was born 5 April 1865 and one record shows Janet elizabeth (Jessie) Pilmer.

4.There is a Jessie Pilmer in the USA to other Pilmers from Berwickshire but the dates make it impossible to be the Jessie you want

I have checked My treewhich is Scots from Midlothian, the Tree of the Berwickshire Pilmers, The largest English Pilmer tree and the Anzac Pilmer tree. The Anzac tree originates from the Angus/Perthshire and Dundee locations and I will check it again using the input from my New Zealand contact.

Coincidently I have a 20 year old neighbour called Jessica living in the house to the right of mine and a 5 year old Jessica (Jessie) living in the house to the left of mine

Hello Burnmoor & Ecnaps,

Margaret Eleanor Pilmer is part of a large tree covering Scotland, England and the USA. I have a copy of that tree containing over 1000 entries and the master tree is a David Frank Pilmer in California.

My name is Colin George Pilmer and I am part of a tree covering Scotland, England, Australia, the USA and Canada.
David and I have shared our tree information as we both feel that there is a connection somewhere in the distant past
My Great-grandfather was George Gibson Pilmer (GGP) and my father, deceased in 1938 when I was 6, was also called George Gibson Pilmer, hence I got Colin from my maternal Great-Grandfather and the George from my fraternal Great-grandfather.

My G-G-Grandfather was called John but I can't find any records of birth, death or parents. Based on the Scottish custom of naming children based on great-grandfathers I think that the Gibson in GGP's name comes from a having a  maternal great-grandfather who was a Gibson.

A few weeks ago I had an Inscriptionsent to me about John and George Pilmer, two brothers who died in 1905 on a farm at Witton Le Wear, Durham and the 1901 Census was my lead into the location.  That same Census entry had a 12 year old boy working on the farm as a servant and he was named Gibson and the inscription mentions "in memory of my uncles"

If you have any leads on my GGP having connections to a
Gibson probably about late 1780 to 1800 time frame I would appreciate your help. Your more recent Gibson-Pilmer connection is in David's tree and I am hoping that I can tie GGP back to an earlier Gibson.

Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: M Inscriptions for Witton le Wear
« on: Friday 06 March 09 01:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Adamand
I have two Scottish, possible relations, John Pilmers age 80 and George Pilmer age 76 brothers, who in the 1901 Census for Witton Le Wear, Durham were shown as farmers. Your Inscription list shows there is at least one Pilmer buried in St Phillips & St James + Municipal Cemetery at Witton Le Mer.

I wonder if you can provide me with the inscription as this will let me verify whether my records are using a birth date or a christening date and I do not have death dates for either one.

I am looking for the name and death date for the Pilmer whose headstone appears in St Phillips & St James + Municipal Cemetery at Witton Le Wear. There were to brothers , born in Scotland, who were on a farm in the 1901 Census at Witton Le Mer. There may be two headstones or just one but I need the date of death to find the Death Certificate.
