Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Code in a Non-Conformist Register

Stenog

Thank you very much for providing the transcription for Wm Hill's entry, I am very appreciative of your time in doing so.

So it transpires that Wm hedged his bets by trying to attend both the Methodists and the Presbyterian dissenters which wasn't too well received and short lived....

I look forward to seeing how the other snippets within the register transcribe.

Thanks again

Reviving this thread from many moons ago which I happened across trying to find information on the shorthand style characters used by Samuel Say Toms in the entry for William Hill (in the original post), who happens to be my 5 x gt grandfather.   A long shot I suspect but I did wonder if anyone had actually managed to transcribe the entry?

A big thank you to you all for taking the time to look and reply.  I am happy to go with the 'Has had ring worm......"

Bookbox - Woodbridge Road would certainly make sense.   Many thanks for your help.

The Common Room / School Admission's Register Reason For Leaving

The reason for leaving given on my ancestor's record is given as "PDAC."   There are many repeats of this entry for other children, same with leaving dates, some without.   Going through the pages further along there are clues that this could be a proficiency certificate, but if so does anyone know what the D and A might mean.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Thanks guys :)

So it looks to be:  Has hardly been....... years.   Reason given for no previous school attendance.

There is another little bit on the page which I cannot read if I may trouble you further....

Any help in deciphering the writing in red ink on his school Admission's Register would be very much appreciated.  i can make out the odd word but not enough for it to make sense.

I use FTM on two separate laptops,  6000 miles apart, due to lifestyle and use the online tree (kept private of course ;)) to sync and keep and the two FTMs up to date.   With the expiry of the online version in due course, can anyone give me any advice on how to keep my tree synced and up to date when dealing with two laptops (and no, I do not wish to carry one half way around the world each time I travel :P)

Thanks.
