Sandy can be short for Alexander. According to the 1911 census website there are 4 Alexanders living in Tywardreath in 1911. Could be a possible lead.

Hi David,

If you google Maenan Abbey Melai it comes back with a few hits that mention a Wynne Family of Melai & Maenan Abbey.

What is the source for the reference to Usena Abbey? Could it just be a bad transcription of Maenan Abbey? When written down Maenan could fairly easily look like Usena. Just a thought.

Cheers,
Gwyn

On the 1871 census the same Owen Owens and his family are living at 1 Madryn cottages, Aber and he has a son called John C. Owens, aged 10.

On the 1881 census there is a joiner called Owen Owens living at 6 Madryn Cottages, Aber which ties in with the address from another thread of yours.

Aber is short for Abergwyngregyn and is near Llanfairfechan. Here it is on google maps.

Gwyn

I reckon Cwmme Ucha might be the name of the farm rather than a placename. Cwmme looks like an old or maybe anglicised spelling of cwm which is a Welsh word for valley. Ucha means upper or higher.

You can see St Peters, Carmarthen on google maps which should give a rough idea where it is/was.

Hi discwizard,

Wasn't this one in Carmarthen the one you were looking for?

Hi Ceri,

Not 100% sure what you're asking but there is/was a Madryn Farm in Abergwyngregyn (usually shortened to Aber) near Llanfairfechan in North Wales.

Cheers,
Gwyn
