Hi Ryhopelad,

Going on my experience, I would say yes 2-3 months.

Unless he was an officer, there's only a small chance he would get a mention but, you can use it to try and narrow the dates down.

Evening,

Does anybody know if the Auxiliary Fire Service records for WWII still exist?

Thanks Andy,

I've been searching for years now to find out how, where and when.

I've managed to narrow it down to 17th Feb 1917 around the Longueval/Deville Wood area. As far as we know he was the Battery Commanders Batman so possibly a runner!?!

I'll keep my eyes open for the digitised version on Ancestry.

Many thanks

Dave

Hi,

If he was Gazetted 16th Oct, then according to the schedules in Howard Williamsons book, that generally covers the battles around Ypres between 31st July 1917 - 18th Aug 1917. Along with the War Diaries you should be able to narrow the dates down a little.

I have the same issue with my G Grandad!

Thanks everyone,

That explains a lot if he lived in the community.

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to locate where the Police Station was in Mawgan-in-Pydar. My Great Grandfather Thomas Sambles was stationed there in the early 1910's/1920's prior to being moved to St Issey. My Nan was also born there in 1918.

Thanks

David
