Lancashire / Re: Oxford Street Rock Pub Manchester
« on: Wednesday 08 August 12 23:57 BST (UK)  »
Don't know if it's been mentioned or is of any use but this pub was also called 'Oxfords' in the mid-late 1980's. I started drinking in there when I was 16 in 1987 and I remember it looked really trendy and brightly painted inside and was always full on Friday nights, the decor and colour scheme was typical 80's-era pale pink, sky blue and grey with matching upholstery and carpet and pink and blue neon lights on the widows if I remember rightly. I really liked it in there. There was a CD jukebox at one end of the bar and there was a staircase at the other end leading to a downstairs room where there were pool tables (I think that basement area later became Subway in 90's).  :)

Thanks, carole
the Aunt Betty looks like an interesting one to try and locate on earlier census, it might give me some clues about the family. Very possible that Elizabeth was named after Betty.

I just found a 55 year old John Redman death in Burnley, 1877. I think that could be him.

thanks, Carole
that could well be them! No I haven't checked for John's death in that date range. I will try it now. :)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / John Redman and Elizabeth, marriage/death details
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 16:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
John Redman and wife Elizabeth, abt 1821 and 1822 respectively, are in my tree and appear several times in census' from 1851 onwards. Place of birth is stated as Cliviger for both. I've been unable to pinpoint a marriage or death/burial record for these two. Winifred and Thomas are living with them on 1851 at 17 Hole House in Cliviger, parish of St. John's, Holme.  Would appreciate any help with this :)
Kind thanks
Rob

Thanks for all the pointers. I will have to start getting a list of churches together and make a visit to the area at some point, probably next year.  :)

Thanks everybody, I'm learning a lot reading through this thread! Yes, it is the same family with the Redman/Roberts conundrum name change as well.

Mosiefish: when you said that most of the church burials are online only up to about 1900, do you mean on Lancs OPC site? I really never knew that, I had no idea and thought they were complete.  So, are all the parish records kept at Lancashire Record Office? I suppose it would be steady work but not impossible to map out a geographical area and then check the registers for the burials, given that I have the date of death from the certificates.

Cancan, I haven't given up yet. This couple are the lynch pin in my tree and I've checked Burnley cemetery and Padiham and they are definitely not there. There may be a family plot somewhere, that's what I'm thinking now.

Thanks for all your help. I just assumed that they were buried. I've had the Burnley MI list costing six pounds and they are not on there, I've also had the office at Burnley cemetery confirm that they are not there either. Perhaps I should look at cremation as an option. If they were cremated it won't really help my search as I'm trying to find out who Jane Alice's parents were, so was hoping for a burial plot. Thanks again  :)
