Hi Daisy.

No need to be sorry - you've been a great help.

Thanks again!

Hi Daisy,

That's a great help thanks! I think I have found the marriages for William and Ann and Thomas and Elizabeth in East Wickham (1801 and 1811 respectively). Edward also was married in East Wickham so I think it is likely the correct William.

Perhaps Thomas and William are brothers? I have also found (IGI) a William Wallis born in 1770 in Leigh, son of Thomas and Sarah...unfortunately no Thomas Jr.. Is there any chance I can be really cheeky and ask if you could check around then in Erith for either William or Thomas? I hate asking (not that you'd know by the number of times I end up doing it!) because there is so little I can do in return - nevertheless if I can return the favour don't hesitate to ask.

All the best,
J.

Kent Lookup Requests / EDWARD/EDMUND WALLIS in ERITH

Hi,

I am looking for the baptism of Edward/Edmund Wallis in Erith, Kent in or around 1812. Unfortunately a sizeable gap appears in the IGI coverage meaning that Edward doesn't appear. I have looked and seen four Wallises (sp?) around that time but unfortunately there are two sets of parents.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi Laura,

Thanks for such a quick reply! That is very helpful - and the Stevensons look right too - especially as Daniel seems to be a family name in the Stevens. I don't suppose there is an occupation for John in the records?

I've looked on the IGI for John and Sarah and found a marriage for John Stevens and Sarah Bland 19 Nov 1795 but it is only a submitted entry...is there any way you can check if it also appears in the records?

In the 1841 census Sarah is still alive and her date of birth is given as 1776 (which obviously is rounded). Is there any chance you could check for a Sarah Bland around that date and also John (Stevens) who I assume would be a similar age (he had died by 1841).

Thanks again, it is very much appreciated!

Hi,

If possible, would anyone be able to check the Empingham baptism register for a William Stevens born around 1806 please? I see that this year isn't in the IGI's coverage...

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

Just thought I'd let you know that I think I have this puzzle solved - mostly thanks to you BumbleB! As you suggested I downloaded Parloc, and then instead of searching by surname, I searched for George's born between 1800-1810 in all the parishes within 10 miles of Darton (that's 60 of them!). At Wentworth a George Habbishon was born 1802 (don't ask how that doesn't come up as a soundex of Habbershon!) and he had a brother Joseph Habbeshon born in 1800. Sorted!

Thanks for all your help - now I just need to find access to the Wentworth burial records!

Hi BumbleB,

Thanks for your help, I've had a quick look and was wondering how you know if the record is searchable on the IGI online?

Hi BumbleB,

The Glossop record gives George's birth as 27 Feb 1808 unfortunately. I think I have also found the Otters' Sheffield George in the NBI dying age 6.

Thanks everyone for responding (and by all means keep them coming) -  I am determined not to be beaten but I am running out of avenues to go down at the moment!

I do have one other quick question. If, say, I was looking for a baptism in a specific church in Barnsley - the IGI reference for Barnsley is C093451. Does that cover all conformist churches in Barnsley (I note that non-conformists seem to have their own reference)?
