hi Reaybo

yes I am trying to make a connection between this shipyard and my ancestor - he definately worked for the Laing shipyard but I have not yet been able find out if there was any relationship - I can't find out where Hall was born, - I know Laing Shipbuilders in Sunderland came from Pittenweem.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / LAING Shipbuilders Dunbar
« on: Wednesday 30 September 09 11:10 BST (UK)  »
hello I was wondering if anyone is searching or can give me information on Laing shipbuilding in Dunbar.

my ancestor Hall Laing married in Liverpool in 1799 then went to Sunderland - he was a shipwright - he was described as being a Native of Dunbar NB -
He returned to Dunbar for a few years around 1813 but returned to Sunderland where he died.  I have never been able to find his birth of that of his 3 children born in Dunbar Elizabeth, David and Margaret.

I know there was a shipbuilder called David Laing in Dunbar but I have not been able to make a connection between him and my Hall.

I tend to think he must still have kept connection in Dunbar if he returned in 1813 but I do not know why he returned for a few years

can anyone help me?

thanks

does anyone have any Laing shipbuilders in the family
ie Hugh Laing who apparently came from Fife and went to Dunbar?

He might have been the son of John Laing and Elizabeth Taylor born Carnbee 1738?

thanks Alison
