Northumberland / Re: Death search - Maxwell Hill
« on: Thursday 20 September 12 20:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi Nick, my grandfather was Roland, Gwendolines brother.
I have got Maxwell's death on 01 Nov 1937 at 4 Woodman Road, Coulsdon & Purley, Surrey.
I remember my mum, Irene Hill talking about two sisters that were in London as she had an opportunity to become an apprentice in their business, she must have been about 19 or so. Haberdashery seems to ring a bell.
I have concentrated quite alot of my ancestry time on the Hills as Iam a civil engineer this is where the engineering side seems to have originated. Daughter is a physicist aswell so it must be in the genes.
I have Ninian , Maxwells father born in Goven, Scotland, moving to follow the ship building.

« on: Tuesday 26 May 09 22:46 BST (UK)  »
I have been very fortunate to find three plots in the cemetery, with alot of help from the Bereavement section of South tyneside. All 3 are together and have family members interred. I believe their are two memorial stones, if anyone visits the cemetery i would be grateful for a digi photo. Plot no's are 602, 603 & 604, i have a location plan if anyone can help.

ive been investigating her son and daughter in law, she died in Elswick over the water!

newcastle cc tell me that if i find a grave no they can tell me if their is a memorial stone. have aske southtyneside if they can do the same.

if not i might start a new post and see if any one on the site lives near jarrow cemetary and can take a picture, if one exists.

it is so enjoyable finding out all this info when we have a site like this and all the registrar offices i have contacted, whether in newcastle, sheffield or in my home county are all so helpful and give advice so freely.

I have been emailling southtyneside registrars about ninian's death, helen husband, and had some very helpful advice from them.
I was given a contact for a cemetery section that has come up trumps with his burial and also has her with him, buried july 1912.

nanny jan your concerns were obviously well founded.  ;D

The contact numbers i had are:
0191 4273190 for southtyneside cemetery section
0191 4271717 for local library &
0191 4554661 for the Shields Gazette

all of these were very helpful, hope the numbers may help some one else.

Hi angelfish58,
i will try your suggestion - they have been very helpful before when i have asked for some advice.

hi nannyjan,
it is quite along time between her son dying in 1937 in south london and his mothers death in north london in 1918 ( if it is her). They could have moved around, i dont think i have many of my other ancestors at the same addresses in subsequent cencus' in Jarrow.
will try and rule out or confirm the south shield one.

thanks again

Hi Nanny Jan
She wasnt the informant on her husbands death cert, the youngest son did this.
I have been discounting the south shields Helen because of the age as i have her in 1911 as 81 with two of the children still living with them aswell.

I am drawn to West Ham one only because i know that the wealthiest son has moved to surrey at some time as he dies there in 1930's, and it may fit that after her husband dies in 1915 she may move down there.

i can see two cert purchases coming to iron this one out.

Many thanks Amber39 for checking the death records. i feel beter knowing i havnt missed anything before buying a cert.

thanks for all your help

Durham Lookup Requests / help checking a death record
« on: Monday 18 May 09 22:17 BST (UK)  »
Looking for some help to check a death.
I have Helen Hill living at 148 Albert Road, Jarrow in 1911 aged 82 .
I have checked Freebmd and can only find a Helen living in Essex with the right age
( died 1918 aged 88 )

If any one has Ancestry Sub, i would be grateful if you could check for her in Jarrow / SS
as i have been told the FreeBMD in not complete.

This could be her, as JenB found her son in Surrey, but didnt expect her to move at this age. her husband died in 1915 in Jarrow.

Hi ele

i am in a similar predicament trying to find a burial for a Ninian Hill in 1915 Jarrow.

i was interested in your comment about an obituary. This is not something i have considered looking for and would be very grateful if you could let me know how you found one.
