I am trying to follow up a private adoption of a baby born in Lindsay house East Mosely in 1936. The adoptive parents a took the baby to Hatfield where they lived to register the adoption via Hatfield Juvenile court. It would seem that the property in East Mosely wasn't a maternity hospital and the baby was kept in care in a children's home or hospital where there were several sick babies from poor backgrounds although this baby was very small it survived and thrived after adoption.The baby was born in june 1936 and 'found' in January 1937 in this baby home/hospital but no records exist of this place although the name of baby and mother are known. baby was given a full birth certificate at adoption, no father's name. but regarding the private adoption a reference was made to railway workers. An assumption being made that this was the source of the 'private' aspect of the adoption. The baby now an 83 year old adult is keen to find out more about those missing months between birth and adoption. I am wondering if anyone would know or have heard of a range of facilities such as these for unwed mothers in 1936.I have joined the Surrey national archives site but it is having problems today so I thought I would try my luck on here. Previous requests/replies have been very helpful and I would like to say Thank you for all your help.

Hi Is it possible to check this address in 1936 as I believe my mother Gladys May Jones was a nanny here . she was possibly listed at number 14just to confuse things but she gave her address on a document as number 12. I am interested in these properties as to who owned them. I have tried to find the relevant Kelly's directory for this decade but I was unsuccessful. I hope someone can help.

Hi Can anyone help me with Anne Theme who married Thomas Reeves in Launton 18/10/1803 THEME is such an awkward surname to research and I wondered if it is common in the area. I would like to know who here parents were please.

thank you very much. sorry about the error. she is dyslexic and picked up the wrong info. ::) I went to cwGC and was asked to pay 8.95 to open record. The info she has has been passed on down the family but lost in translation. very confusing for her. She goes to the grave sometimes but was confused by the fact that his parents and widow who remarried are buried there. So we wont know any more about the accident then. Thank you for your help. I am searching this for a friend who lost her grandfather Gunner 6970255 Alfred Henry Edwin Abbott 1915-1943 on a troop ship that allegedly went down off Scotland. His body was recovered and brought home and buried in Woodgrange Park Cemetary in East ham. (Find a grave)Family do not know whether he drowned with his comrades and wonder why they werent all buried together. We went on CwGC but couldnt afford the fee. Does anyone know anything about this incident i.e, ship etc. She would love to find a photo of him if possible. Thank you. Briagh.

Yes it seems so but cant move on from him. it is tempting to jump a generation. He married Ann Tompkins but it all seems to end there! There is a plethora of attempts recorded i.e. Henn 1670 , Henny? and Hennery 1688-1739 all oxfordshire but where they fit on is anyones guess!. Sadly I have poor eyesight and concentration so I get muddled easily. The line seems to carry on through Norfolk and Suffolk into London where my heart sinks!. I wish I could afford a professional team to sort them all out. I know one line ended up in March Cambs (my great grandparents) but it is the history from ireland to launton in oxfordshire that intrigues me. An early ancestor may have been William Reeves a Bishop of Cork but the Reeves left Ireland. Those records were destroyed in a fire in Launton oxon. To be honest I find it hard to work out which direction I am working in!. Thank you for your interest.  Briagh
