Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: BOORD & MILLARD of Street
« on: Saturday 20 September 14 11:59 BST (UK)  »
hello Bristol Clark,
I'm afraid I can't help with Susannah's baptism as she is no longer on my tree. I think I must have deleted her on finding an error. It's such a long time ago, and I have been concentrating on other branches. My maternal grandmother's mother was Orpah King. Bathsheba Eyears Boord married Francis King in 1810.
I can only offer the info. that Francey Abraham Boord was a Master Plumber and Glazier in Paulton in 1777 (you may already know) see Reg. of Duties paid for Apprentices' Indentures 1710-1811.
Good luck! Eleanor

I now have the death cert of Mary Ann Jenkins in St Pancras Workhouse on 1st Jan 1902, aged 65. The date and age are right but I don't believe this can be the ancestor I was looking for as I don't recognise the address ( 108 Osnaburgh St St Pancras), also the certificate doesn't say if this one was married or single. Her Occupation was Needlewoman and the cause of death Chronic Bronchitis & Morbus Cordis (Heart Disease). I don't think she can be the same Mary Annie Jenkin I have been looking for - therefore I am reluctantly giving up. Thanks for the help & suggestions, Milliepede.

Mary Ann White's mother was Elizabeth Groves, Mary Annie's sister.

The house at 25 Westow St occupied by the Jenkins in 1891 housed the family of a Scottish Builder & Decorator John Stewart, in 1901.

So Mary Annie could be the Mary Ann Jenkins in the St Pancras workhouse? infirmary in 1901, and who died there on 1st Jan 1902.

I think I will go for the Death Cert.

Yes, she was born in 1835 so that would be right. The only other possible I can find is a Mary Ann Groves in St George Bloomsbury Workhouse in 1901.
RG13/238/131/15
Right age, but Surname & birthplace wrong. Maybe she was using her maiden name? and Bloomsbury as birthplace for anonymity?

Am getting a  FH friend to check the 1901 address. This death registration
 1902 JFM. pancras 1b 74
of a Mary Ann Jenkins could be her - she is in the st pancras workhouse death reg as dying on jan1. 1902. Maybe she was in the infirmary - although quite far from Norwood. Perhaps I will splash out and get the certificate. If this is her, she was left on her own while Robert and her young neice went off to South Africa, or maybe they got home first.

Yes, I see what you mean. It does say "married" or "single" at the top of the column. I see there is 1 passenger entered as "married"  - travelling alone. i.e. the Rev Butt. Mrs Budd. on the other hand is under "Single". If this referred to status that would mean Mary Annie died before Oct 1900, but apparently not. So she may have still been alive but not travelling with Robert & Mary Ann.

I wondered if she could have separated from Robert and used her maiden name of Groves, or the name of her son's father (Gay) but haven't had any luck searching. Unless she was in a workhouse or similar.

Robert Henry Jenkin (b. 1847 Egloskerry ), m. Mary Annie Groves (b. Nov 1835 Lynton) Dec 1869.  They were living in  Norwood, London in 1869. They never had children.
Mary Annie's nieces, surname White, from Lynton, were frequently with them in Norwood - particularly one Mary Ann White b.1884 who was 7 in 1891. She seems to have looked after Robert  from the age of about 16 , while he had TB. Neither Mary Ann, nor Mary Annie, nor Robert Henry can be found in the 1901  Census.
Family info. says that RHJ went on a sea voyage to try & cure his TB. The UK Passenger List for "The Briton", sailing on 20 Oct 1900 for Cape Town, shows a Mr R H Jenkin & a May White, both in single cabins. If these are the same Robert Henry Jenkin & Mary Ann White, his wife Mary Annie is not with them.
Before her marriage M A Groves  had an illegitimate baby boy who at first lived with her parents as their son, and later moved to Norwood, where he married and became a Builder with an established family.
Robert (also a Builder) died in Tremaine Cornwall in July 1904. He left £1126 8s 6d to Mary Ann White. He also mentions "my dear late wife" in his will.
I would be glad to know Mary Annie's place & date of death (not found in Free BMD) All suggestions welcome.
