Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Walton
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm looking for as much information as possible on my paternal grandfather. His name was William Walton.  Sadly I didn't even know that fact 'til the other day when I managed to find my Grandmother's Divorce papers through the National Archives.   I was hoping that it would have included more information on him such as a date of birth but unfortunetly the only information I was able to obtain from the document was that at the time of the divorce in which he was co-respondant in 1928, he was living at 10 Cliffe Street Dewsbury, (Now considered part of Batley).

I know that census records released only take us to 1911 and ancestry.co.uk has no ability to search them, the 1921 census is unavailable and there's no saying that he even lived there then.

My family seem to think that he was in the Green Howard's during WW1 and moved to Kent in the late 20's early '30's.

Any advise on how to search historic electoral roles going back to the '20's?

Hi Marleen,

It's been a while since we heard from you.  Hope you're OK.  Do you have that other picture of the wedding?

Hi Marleen,

Those scans of Robert and Harold would be nice if you can post them.  If you have ancestors from Easington, Please check the following link, it is a work in progress.  It's called the Easington Headstone Project where the intention is to photograph every gravestone in easington churchyard.  I have already found about 25 people that I am related to there.

Hi Marleen,

I've just checked my family tree and the Robert Medforth who owned the Dog & Duck did marry Ada Lawton and had two boys Edwin & Harold.  These are the two boys seen in the picture above.  So Yes They are one and the same person.  You've helped me too as I didn't know Robert was in the fuzz. lol ;D

I'm looking for information on this family particularly John Medforth of Kilnsea who was born approx 1725 and died approx 1786 and his ancestors.  He was my GGGGG grandfather.  I have quite a bit of details regarding his descendants, but not his ancestors or parentage.  I'm also interested in finding out more about one of my distant cousins Robert Medforth who used to run the Dog & Duck Public House  in Patrington.  I recently visited Patrington and could not find this builiding anywhere.  It was unique in as much as it had a picture of a Dog & Duck carved in the stone above the door.  Does this building still exist?

Hi Jen,

I've have a few Hodgson's and one Longhorn in my family tree, through a connection with the villages of Holderness such as Easington and Kilnsea.  The only Longhorn I have is a Matilda Longhorn who married a man named Medforth Tennison.  Someone on this thread has already mentioned a Samuel Longhorn who is buried in Easington Churchyard and I'm trying to make the connection with Matilda through this, as I have found that I am related (so far), to about 35 people who are buried in that small graveyard.  For those with a strong family connection to the villages of the Holderness coast, I advise you to look at the Easington Headstone project.  It a website that plans to list and picture all the headstones in the churchyard up until it's closure order in 1883.  The majority of the grave stones are in impeccable condition given their age.  The site is still very much a 'work in progress' with new names added frequently. If you don't find what you're looking one day It's worth popping back another.   Please note,  I have no affiliation with the author of the page nor the page itself. I merely mention it as it has been invaluable to me in my family research and hope it can benefit some of you guys in the same way.  The link is below.

Hi Lizzie

It's a long shot I know, but my Great Great Grandfather was named William Sizer who's Wife was Betsy Thompson.  I believe William had a brother called Richard and they were both Forge Men in the Sculcoates area of Hull in the mid-late 19th century.  I have no other information on this side of the tree, but would love to know more.  If you feel that your tree and mine are connected in anyway, I'd love to hear fom you.  all the best
