Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: M inscriptions for Crook
« on: Tuesday 04 May 10 23:01 BST (UK)  »
Dear Adam
Thank you very much for looking them up for me.
The last grave is certainly our family - it is my husbands g.g grandmother's.
The others are not known to me, but I'll be researching them to see if they are related.
Yours Janet

Dear Adamand
I wonder if it is possible for you to look up the Patterson which you have listed as a memorial in Crook Cemetery.
My husbands family lived there until around 1915, and we went a couple of weeks ago, but did not find a Patterson grave - obviously I should have looked on Rootschat first!
Hope you are able to find it for me
Yours Janet Patterson

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Southern Cemetery, Manchester - Grave Photograph?
« on: Wednesday 11 February 09 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
The Machrays are in my family, and I have been to the Southern Cemetery to find the graves.
I found the headstone of Alexander (d1899) and Sophia Machray (d1929) under some bushes. There were no other names on the headstone.
I looked for the "1215, Mackray" headstone, but have since found out that although the first grave was in the C of E section, the 1215 grave is in the non-conformist section. I haven't been back to look though.
By the way, don't you think that Percy Thackery could just be a very bad transcription of Machray, especially as the date is very close to his death?
After all it is spelt wrongly on just about every document you see.
I'm trying to track down his mother Jane Machray (and father John Hutchinson Norris? )They seem to disappear in 1841 and 1851.
Jane is the sister of my g g grandmother Elizabeth Machray, father Alexander Machray.
