Tremendous! Thanks to the both of you - this has been one of my strays for some time.

Also nice to now know one can search the 1881 in ancestry from some more vantage points.

Cheers - Barry

Thanks Tati.

I'll try that URl using the old experience set-up.

I hauled some old maps off my shelf and see that there is a Sarah Street on a 1905 map running north south just east of the Bradford Recreation Ground and east of Barmouth Street. The layout on the map suggests it is in Beswick Ward - but perhaps another enumeration district?

B.

Dear Tati,

Thanks for the speedy response. I had also found also the Sarah Ann St. but with the different name and no known names at the address not sure if there might be another enumeration district in the area with a Sarah Street.

..I just recently joined ancestry.co.uk...and have not seen the page where you can search by street yet - can you send me the url for that page.

Thanks again for your help.

Barry

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Help: 1881 enumeration district - have street address
« on: Saturday 21 February 09 20:17 GMT (UK)  »

Can anyone help me identify what enumeration district I need to search to locate an address in the 1881 Census? I have been unable to locate a John Henry Tonge in the 1881 Census name search but have his marriage certificate that contains the following.

Date of Marriage 28 April 1881
Residence at time of marriage 6 Sarah St.
Marriage cert. indicates married at Christ Church in the Parish of Beswick
District of Prestwich.

Spent the day going through Prestwich and Beswick and can't find any Sarah St.

Not sure how I triangulate to find an enumeration district in the Ecclesiastical District of Christ Church. The Bride's family lived in Ardwick on Tipping st...if this helps. (first time at trying to search by address/Parish vs by names).

Big thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Dear Failsafe / Migky:

Thanks to both of you for your help...I am thinking it is actually a scheme of the local tourist board for encouraging visiting genealogists as it is becoming apparent it might be cheaper to fly in and look at records than pay the increasing costs.... ;)

I am now better informed on several fronts.

Cheers,

Barry

Dear Mo,

Great. Thank you for this  information I had googled the internet until I ran out of search terms and ideas for more than a week and was not able to find a reference.

Much appreciated.

Lancashire / St. Thomas Chapel, Heaton, Norris
« on: Saturday 14 February 09 21:15 GMT (UK)  »

Can anyone please confirm if there is a record (Monumental Inscription) for the former gravestones that existed at St. Thomas Chapel, Heaton Norris available somewhere.

I have been stuck on an ancestor Richard Tonge, buried on 31 Jan 1869 at St. Thomas Chapel and hoping a burial record and (hope of hopes) a recorded grave maker inscription might help me finally confirm his parents are a Thomas Tonge and Mary Albertston.

Any advice and leads greatly appreciated.

Barry

Dear Failsafe,

Thank you for the speedy response. I received a copy of the Gorton Cemetery Plot Map from another member to the list within minutes after my post.

...can I ask a supplemental here (still learning the communications protocol as a new member)...

Is there a public available list that enables you to match the Grave number you get when you use the Manchester Burial Records Search with the Cemetery Plot maps ?

Cheers,

Barry
