Hi Carol, Barbara, Erato & JayG,

Thank you for your replies  ;D ;D ;D

Looks like I still have a little while to wait (assuming I don't get the same result as you Erato!)
I have tried phoning, but keep getting the answerphone message which ends saying it takes 21 working days - we are already past that!!!.

Thank you again -  I will post when I finally get the will!!

The Common Room / ?? re ordering a copy of a will
« on: Monday 17 May 10 17:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Just wondering...

I ordered a copy of a 1937 will/Grant of Probate etc at the beginning of April but have not heard anything from them yet. They have banked my cheque back on 14/4 so I had hoped to hear from them by now. I have just checked the HMCS website for info - I think I should have had confirmation of receipt of my application.
 - Has anyone ordered a copy will from them??
 - Did you receive confirmation of receipt of your application??
 - Did it take a long time to receive a copy of the will??

I know the the will existed - my Mum, the Grand daughter, was told about how the will had to be "broken" to release the money to the children (her mother, aunt & uncle).

Many thanks.

Yippee !!! the service records I ordered have arrived!!  ;D ;D ;D I am so pleased as I thought they would be delayed because of the ash cloud affecting airmail.

Sooo interesting!!  There are 48 pages including a copy of my rellies temperature chart from when he was in hospital with influenza in early 1918!!

Hi Jay,

Thanks for letting me know, again I am so jealous!!  It does sound quite reasonable - no more than the local archives as you say. I ordered mine on 28/2 so it looks like i've got a while to wait  :P. Oh well, they will get here when they do. Patience is a virtue etc.....

Hope you got lots of interesting info.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your reply - I am sadly lacking in my knowledge of anything military!
On checking the CEF attestation papers he details "6 yrs, 3rd Durham Light Inf".

Is there a chance of finding any records?? (I am looking forward to my visit to Kew anyway!!)

Armed Forces / Where to find Durham LI records???
« on: Sunday 07 March 10 17:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

I would like to find (if possible) any service records for my ancestor in the Durham Light Infantry pre 1911. My relative joined the CEF in 1916 and discloses on his attestation papers that he was in the Durham LI for 6 years. Where would I find records of this?? He emigrated to USA/Canada 1911 so I am guessing it is before this. I have tried looking at the National archives site but am just getting confused!!

Any advice would be very welcome.

Vida  ;D
