I would appreciate help, as I am unable to search myself due to distance.

What sort of help did you have in mind?

Hi Ross,
Thanks for information on the Hudson.
I am researching on behalf of a friend who is a relation, but not next of kin to D B smith.
When you say it is difficult, but not impossible, to get information without a service record, just what would be involved?
Regards
Val.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / James Green

James Green b. Australia 1894, enlisted in AIF in 1915 and discharged in London in 1920, gve his address as :-   12 New North Rd,  Hoxton and mail was received there until 1920 when it was returned as " Not  known at this address". On Australian Army records it states that it was a hairdresser's premises.
On the 1911 Census, looking up the street address, the numbers go from 10 to 14, so I wondered what happened to 12? Also, only even numbers are given in the census.
I don't know if it is possible to find out who occupied those premises from about 1917 to1920, I have tried old trade directories with no success.
James Green did not return to Australia and his family, to this day, do not know what happened to him.
If you can shed any light on the address and it's possible occupants at that time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kyt

Flt Sgt Dennis Bensted Smith  b. Kimberley, South Africa in 1917,  joined Rhodesian Air Force

approximately 1940, then with Coastal Command, 500 squadron, RAFVR. He was shot down and killed

over the Bay of Biscay in Sept. 1942. I have not been able to find any information about medals, so would

be grateful for anything you can tell me. Any other relevant information would also be of great help.

I am trying to trace to establish what happened to James Green b. 1885 in South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
He enlisted in the AIF in 1915, served in France & Egypt, and after a less than salubrious army career, was discharged in London in 1920.
Pte. James Green, No. 600, C. Company, 22nd Battalion AIF.
His last known address was  :- 12 New North Rd,  Hoxton,  London in 1920.
To the family's knowledge, he never returned to Australia.

Hi km1971
Thank you for your detailed information. You are right about it being the Silver War Badge, there is no actual mention of those words, but your description fits.
The document lists his name, Absalom Rigby,- Corps. 6th Manch. - Reg. No. 12,
Rank Cpl. -Date of Enlistment  10-9-14 and Discharge  13-4-15.  Under the column heading  Cause of Discharge, it reads
Par. [possibly] 3 or 5?,-  Med. unfit,-  Age 54 yrs.    K.R.[ King's Regulation?]
Below, where the words [a] Badge,  and  Medal, are printed on the document, each word has inverted commas beneath it. Also, alongside the printed words-  Action taken-  is written -  List  TH/725
I have looked through the websites you listed, and it appears I will discover no more without a trip to the National Archives at Kew. It will be a long trip, as I live about as far away as you can get on the other side of the world!
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Thanks for your replies. I have pretty comprehensive information on Absalom Pollard Rigby, birth, marriage, several censuses, etc. I really want to know if he was a member of the armed forces around 1881 and WW1, and, if so any further details.
