« on: Sunday 30 March 25 00:00 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you everyone for your thoughts which are appreciated and given me some leads to follow.

Being in New Zealand is a disadvantage at times as I do not have the local knowledge of members on this forum.

Thanks again

Scotland / James McKie married Mary Kerr 17th July 1884
« on: Thursday 27 March 25 05:02 GMT (UK)  »
From a birth record for James and John McKie (Twins) born 19th September 1892 Mary McKie MS Kerr married James McKie July 1844.

I am unable to locate a marriage Mary and James in 1884. I wish to search by district but are unable to decipher the district they were married in (last part looks like town).

Appreciate any help
Thanks

Thank you garngad and neale1961. with the records you have pointed me in the direction of I think you are correct in that we have found Janet's parents and some other siblings as well. Her birth year of abt 1809/1811 in the census will be as good as we get without a baptism record.

The death record for Thomas will take as a further generation back on Janet's paternal line  . Thomas's occupation is listed as Thatcher which ties back into Janet's death record and which also ties in with the 1841 census record.
Thomas's father is named as Thomas also, a farmer deceased and Elizabeth Hamilton ms Lawson deceased. Informant was also Thomas Hamilton his son. So 4 generations each with a Thomas Hamilton.
Thank you everyone for all your help

Thank you Neale1961 I have obtained the death registration for Thomas Hamilton aged 87 and a copy of the 1851 census.
wivenhoe details from Janet's death registration
Deaths in the District of Dennistoun County of Lanark
Janet Couper widow of Alexander Couper occ ? 1888 March Sixteenth ?.30am Barnhill Poor House near Glasgow  usual residence. Female aged 77 years  Father Thomas Hamilton (Thatcher) deceased Mother Johan Hamilton ms McNab deceased. Cause of death debility Medical Attendant ? William ? MD Informant Thomas Couper Son 214 Great ? Street Registered 1888 March 19th.
It appears that perhaps that some children of Thomas Hamilton & Johan/Ann/Annie McNab(b) may not have been baptised.

Thank you garnad. Thomas and Ann who married 1805 are a possibility which I will explore.

It may be that we will not find an actual baptism record for Janet in which case this becomes a brick wall which may be solved by the person I am helping taking a DNA test.

Lanarkshire / Janet Couper/Cooper died 16.03.1888 Barnhill Poor House near Glasgow
« on: Monday 05 August 24 13:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am seeking further information on the abovenamed lady. I understand that Barnhill Poor House records are at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and are quite detailed. We are unable to locate a birth record for Janet who was born Janet Hamilton abt 1811 in Hamilton Lanarkshire. Parents on death registration said to be Thomas Hamilton (occ Thatcher) and Johan Hamilton m/s McNab.
Janet married Alexander Cooper June 1836 and we have the Church marriage record for this marriage. The 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 census consistently lists her place of birth as Hamilton Lanark abt 1809 / 1811. I was wondering if someone is going to the Mitchell Library and could do a look up for Janet Couper/Cooper. If possible looking to confirm year and date of birth and parents names. Unfortunately,  I am in New Zealand. Any help or suggestions much appreciated thanks David

Hi

I have two men who died on the Medway 22.05.1853 (James Duffey and George Storey. I am unable to decipher the details written in the Place and date of death and cause of death column except for the date of death. Place of Death could possibly  be Jamaica.? Cause of Death ?

Thanks
David
